I just found this community and thought it would be a good idea to say hello and introduce myself before jumping in
I am hearing impaired now, though I grew up hearing OK. In 1994, my hearing suddenly disappeared. At first I thought I had an ear infection or something blocking my ears, but after several doctor's appointments, rounds of antibiotics and finally a referral to an ENT, it was determined that I had some sort of unexplained nerve damage that was probably not treatable or reversible.
I do not have hearing aids as my insurance will not cover them, so I rely on lip reading and visual cues. Needless to say, this sometimes causes some embarassing situations when I have not fully understood something that is being said. The most difficult part for me is traveling alone. I can't hear anything that is being said in airports, train stations, etc.
But on a good note, this also means I cannot hear my husband's snoring-LOL!
Happy to have found this group!
