Hey guys I got my learner's permit! Im sooo happy and finially got it... But the thing is since we're all deaf/hoh, how were you able to hear the person who is teaching you how to drive.. What kind of plan did you come up with so you were able to know what to do, like if you were on the wrong road, or you need to turn. Maybe do a three point turnabout... My mom is worried a little bit since Im not going to able to hear her since I depend on lips only.. Wondering how ya'll did it? Please let me know since Im going to practice driving this evening...

my Driver Ed teacher signed .. and he do have the wheel and the brakes on his side in case something happened.. i didnt have any plms looking at him when he signed..

btw congrats on getting the permit! :)

You don't need to face the person who is helping you with driving, All you have to do is follow the signs, follow the speed limits, stay on your lane, pay attention what's around you and in front of you. The person who would ride with you during the driving exam would be able to pointed which turn you should turned into. Make sure you have two hands on the driver's wheel with one foot on gas/brakes. And final, make sure you have three mirrors two outside and one inside, then you'll be just fine. Good luck to you! ;)

The man who takes grade on my driving, he just signed "left", "right", "stop", "back", and umm...I think that's all. He didn't make me do 3 points way so I'm lucky lol

same here, and my step mom taught me how to drive, she did the same thing as the man who went with me during the driving exam...

edit Opps, I forgot to add that I'm happy you got your permit and wish you all the best with the driving test and etc. RoyalMajesty :)

I passed permit license when 16 years old and passed full license when 17 years old. Road test is easier for me because doing well with practice and short time to finish. It's depends on other states and can be different way to do it.

Congrat to RM for passed permit license, just keep up to pass full license soon. :)

Well, my driving instructor wasn't capable of signing and we weren't allowed to have an interpreter as it would be a liability. So, we figured out a solution and it was by using a 8.5 x 11 paper sheet (hard/thick type) and drew the signals like you would see in the dashboard of a car, and wrote down some simple words so that I wouldn't be distracted while trying to read it. All he'll do is point to the symbol to show what he want me to do.

It worked pretty well though. Didn't have a problem with it.

Be aware of the ticket writing kitty cops! they are....more scary than human cops! :eek3:

erm...maybe I drank too much coke today lol

BTW, congrats! ;)
