if you were referring to my thread about deaf culture? if so, which one of my post? so I can clarify this one if i wasn't clear in my previous post.
Yes its evolving. I love my deaf culture from 1970 to now only with our own people.
Yea i am, already. Lately, I meet HOH or hearing losses or CI users than pure deaf people. Oh yea hearing people.

True. That's how I was upbringing being around deaf people on a daily basis. Either I was in deaf school, Deaf club, at home that I had deaf friends who was in my same hometown. Any oral deaf kids chose not to want to socialize with me becasue they thinks ASL is bad for them. So I left them alone and let them be for who they are. at this time CI wasn't the hot issue until 1980's for babies, not for us at our ages.

True. This is my current life how I have been interacting with those varies of HOH, CI users, or hearing losses who either don't accept to be part of deaf culture or accept to be part of deaf culture. Its evolving where i live in now. If they accept for who they are, and willing to be part of the deaf culture then that's GREAT! There are too many babies who got CI and their cultures are not the same as mine.

Here are a couple of quotes of you from your deaf culture thread.
Alot of this just re-enforces how subjective this really is. We should not get so hung up on lables.
i agree. i gotta learn how to stop doing it sometimes.Alot of this just re-enforces how subjective this really is. We should not get so hung up on lables.
great. a lot of kids mimick their parents. you still haven't answered my question, I'd rather not assume. you're telling me I deny however you refuse to answer/say it?she says she is deaf AND she can hear. signs "deaf" and "can" "hear" (at ear not mouth)
I hope you're proud of your child whether she's deaf, and/or CI/HA user.
how can I contradict if I look at the both ways? it just depend ON the person, how well s/he can hear....freckles.... while I value your opinion you are contradicting what others from the deaf community have been preaching to parents of deaf children that have CI's and HA's and "claimed" there child can hear. Many in the deaf community came down hard on them to say that your child is deaf regardless of them being able to hear with a CI or HA's. I tend to agree with that statement. At the end of the day without the HA's or CI's you are deaf. If you have some residual hearing you are still deaf. Just not profoundly.
no but IMO - it's more like being involved with deaf community & deaf social events and knowing handful of deaf people.
Am I culturally deaf? no I don't think so because I wasn't "born n' raised" as a Deaf person. But the deaf community here accepts me and we hang out. That's good enough for me.If they accepted me as culturally deaf, cool beano.
make me wonder, if there is a stem cell cure for deaf or internal 24/7 CI processor, are people still going to say they are deaf?

I know. Apparently a lot of people don't get my humor!
But it is very interesting to watch this unfold.
see post #49, in very end of paragraph after your quote. What questions have I not answered?![]()
like fairejour just did, perfect examplewhy do people label themselves, especially their children to get some pity? or feel sorry for them/selves? "deaf but hears 96%" .. *stratches my head* .. hears almost 100% "BUT" deaf? BIG conflict here. if say, "deaf in one ear," or "96% in one ear," or "hears 96% with CI," etc. fine. if nothing of these, then I would never thought she's deaf. I can bet faire's (culturally) hearing, am I right? usually they don't know what they're talking about. unless they can define and educate us better. so fairejour, please explain how can she hear veryvery well if she's deaf?
thank you. most parents of deaf children I met, do. especially my own mother. regardless the fact that I am deaf.I don't say she is Deaf or deaf to get pity. I do it because it is a FACT.
She hears that well because she has a cochlear implant. Without her CI's she is severe-profoundly deaf in both ears.
Yes, I am hearing, but it is not true that I "don't know what I'm talking about". I am raising my child as Deaf, with ASL and the Deaf community.
thank you. most parents of deaf children I met, do.
sorry to ask, why did you decide to CI her if you are going to raise her as Deaf?
