Agreed!Wirelessly posted
she'll always be deaf, she will choose whether or not shw wants to be Deaf (big D, culturally)
I agree with that.being a deaf person and being a culturally deaf are not the same. That's all i can say for now.
I know I have not been considered culturally deaf, but I am deaf. I am total deaf, but since I do not know enough ASL to have it be my language, I have not been considered Deaf. Right?
I advocate for the deaf, I try to be a part of the deaf community and I am learning ASL. That gets be closer to being Deaf, but not there quite yet. Am I right?
Culturally Deaf people are those who are born deaf or became deafened early in life and rely primarily on sign language for communication.
Late deafened people are those who became deafened after acquiring language.
Its all about attitudes that counts for being culturally Deaf and be acceptable about it. yes.
So, if it's about the attitudes, then I guess I can be considered culturally Deaf then? Thanks, I was hoping. I have been working hard to adopt a new thought process and such. Growing up, I never realized how "sheltered" I was regarding my hearing loss and the availabilities that were available. (does that makes sense?)
Nope
Weird definitions there.
Both oral... and culturally Deaf.
Mind-boggling.

If they accepted me as culturally deaf, cool beano.Weird definitions there on the website. Both oral... and culturally Deaf. Mind-boggling.

well, it's you who decide to accept as a culturally deaf by making effort to be part of the deaf community. Thats my opinion.
