I'm trying to get Closed Captioning working with a (few years old) Hauppauge WinTV card under Fedora Core 1 Linux. ntsc-cc works, but I want something that looks like the familiar TV image rather than a separate text window with the CC, so I'm trying to get zapping to work.

RPMs in question: zapping-0.6.7-fr1, zvbi-0.2.4-fr2, rte-0.5.1-fr2.

For a given run of zapping, if I can turn on CC once, then all is well. Unfortunately, it rarely goes on that first time; more often, it ignores my attempts to turn it on.

zapping -d generates some lines of output that might be pertinent:

I/O error #0 in decoding thread:
V4L/V4L2 VBI interface timeout
Aborting.

That's from a run where CCC doesn't work. (Despite the "Aborting" message, zapping does run; it just won't display CCC.) Alas, I have yet to get the debugging output from an instance where the CC does work on zapping.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
