single-sided deafness and I'm from Peru :) our peruvian sign language is kinda poor, I have to say it... schools here don't help us, being Deaf here is really hard, the goverment doesn't do anything to change things! I decided to learn BSL because I think it's easier, I'll be Deaf soon or maybe not, but I want to learn it while I can use my other ear, but it's getting hard everyday...

I really want to visit Peru someday *soon*.

Want to keep in touch? Send me a PM, and we'll talk.

hi xsuperchick - which one are you in your avatar?

Que pasa chica.

Read your blog. You already speak/write two languages, and ASL is like Espanol in many ways. In fact you already speak the two most spoken languages in the world. I believe ASL would be a good complement as I understand it is the most widely signed language in the world.

Oh yes, Berry! You're right, and I'm learning BSL, but I want to learn ASL too because it's very important for me to sign :) You speak spanish too?

Why BSL? Plan go to Europe? Why don't you learn ASL and come to North America. :D

Kinda interesting for a Peruan learning BSL instead of ASL. I guess it depends on everyone's tastes.

You means Oceania, right? I know you meant Britain, but had to tease you on choice of continent.

Most of Europe, or at least western Europe, use a sign language that have the same parental origin as ASL.

PowerON: I'm learning BSL because my sister's bf is English and deaf, she wants me to translate him when he talks, she can learn it like I do because she works all day and wants me to teach her. My family is weird =P

I'd love to go to the US, so that's why I'm planning to learn ASL :) will you help me guys?

x

No puedo hablar bastante que tu.

I'm in the same position with Spanish as ASL. Did not use for years and they atrophied. However I'm working on both nowadays.

Quebec, Canada is fascinating. Most Canadian Deaf use ASL, but there is also BSL, FSL, and Quebec developed its own, QSL. So it is quite possible to see three d/Deaf individuals standing on a corner signing -- And one of them is the terp for the other two.

Are you Deaf, HoH or hearing? If you want to practice your Spanish, I'm available to help you! Love my language.

I didn't know Canada was doing its own sign language, it's pretty good, we have one here too, it's "lenguaje de señas peruano" (peruvian sign language) but our schools are really bad in that way, so we don't have the right education for Deaf people =/
