I am an Interpreter for the deaf. Many of my family members are deaf. I was raised around the deaf community. I am an Artist, and Love the Language of the deaf, I can relate. I'm a visual person, and think in pictures, and always have. I have been doing sign language for about 15 years, and would like to continue it. However...I am very SHY. I am working on that. I am going deaf and do not know how to handle it. I can communicate, but not many can communicate with me. When people talk with me, I just shake my head because I can't hear them. Sometimes if I cannot hear someone, I don't know what to do because they get frustrated with me, and so I just walk away. I may have been born this way, but not sure. I have no idea how much I can't hear or can hear really!!! I am planning on teaching my husband how to sign language, because he is one I cannot hear most of the time, he gets angry with me because I don't answer him. My frustration is not because I cannot hear them very good, its because they get frustrated with me, and then I don't know what to do. So, anyway...I love animals, especially cats. Love children. Have one 18 year old and one 8 year old. And I wonder if I can make those smileys disappear at the right?

Want to get to know deaf in the michigan area. Especially West Michigan...Holland/Muskegon/Grand Haven/Heart areas.

Hello and welcome to Alldeaf artist616! Love art?! That's great and perhaps one of these days you'll be able to share some of your artistic work here in AD. I can relate to how it must feel when others may get frustrated when we can't or don't hear and seeing their lack of patience on the verge of being disgusted especially when it needs to be repeated. Simply try to explain gently that it's not your fault for not being able to hear everything or hearing it the first time around...and if they were to be more understanding along with being patience, more so being able to 'look directly' at you whenever they're speaking which would greatly help. I do hope for the best down the road that there others will show more compassion and understanding when it comes to communicating. ;)

I agree with our Super Moderator Roadrunner, that patience is a very important virtue here with family members and friends. They need to understand how hard it is for you right now to adjust to a new world, and that when you tell them you didn't hear them, they just need to calmly repeat what they said. I too come from a deaf family, I myself am a CODA, although I can hear still, my heart belongs with the deaf community. I hope that you will find the peace and understanding with your family and friends. Have fun posting, getting to know the members as they are wonderful, and welcome aboard!!!! I dont know if I knew you, I used to live in Michigan for whole of my life and did go to West Side of Michigan to visit pretty often... But enjoy in here! :D

just wondering if you know my family. sisters: Dolly and Bonnie, mother deaf. Dolly is interpreter for schools of Muskegon. You know Gwen, Bob, Roxanne, Sue....Roxanne have M.S. I can't give you last names because they would not want me to. If you involved with deaf community you should know these ones.
