Okay, I have band camp next week. I have band camp on monday at my high school from 9AM-9PM. And then on tuesday-saturday i'm gone for the week, I'm going to be at Miami University here in ohio. And I really need to work my ass off on some excercising. So i was doing situps, pushups (not like what guys do. girls cross their legs and use their knees on the floor and do pushups but i tried doing what guys do for push ups..i barely can do it!) and i was lifting my chair on my legs and arms to get some more muscles, etc. But i was planning on going for a jog but i got too lazy. And i've been drinking too much pop and i want to start getting in shape now before I have band camp. And i know I don't have that much time.

So..Whenever i jog, i get side pains ALOT! Like under my ribs on my right side starts to hurt. And it would start to hurt after 3 minutes or so, and I would start to feel like i'm going to faint and I have to stop running for a min or 2. Because I KNOW that the whole marching band members (including the pit members and i'm in the pit) would have to run around the campus at Miami University. Maybe for a 2 mile jog i think. I'm not sure how many miles i'll be running. But the worst thing i'm not looking forward to band camp is the running. Because of my side pains. And I've been eating some fruits, vegtables, i'm trying to drink more water, and i've been riding my bike around the neighboorhood, and i was playing a bit of basketball and soccer outside of my house.

So my problem is my side pains whenever i'm jogging either for school, around the neighboorhood, or for the marching band. So, how would you handle this?? And how would you get rid of the pain?? Because I do NOT want to feel the side pains again when i'm running. It takes out energy of me. Can you help me pls????? Thanks so much!!!

You are getting what is known as a "stitch" in your side. Hurts to breathe? Right under your rib cage is where the pain is? You just need to increase your deep breathing when you are exercising. If you are breathing shallowly, your muscles can't get enough oxygen, and they start to tighten up. Also, you will feel faint because your brain is not getting enough oxugen.

Oh okay, Yeah i went on to yahoo answers and they said to drink more water, more healthier fruits, and work on my breathing. I've been doing that. They gave me a tip by breathing thorugh my nose and my mouth. and breath like a rythm. Like in one, out 3 or something.

You need to consult with a doctor/medical professional/physical trainer/etc. The best I can suggest you is to put down double-whopper & soda and.... pick up the towel and hit the gym!

Maybe you're trying too hard? If you haven't exercised for a long time, then suddenly decided to start exercising, then your body may need time to recover. Maybe try exercise one day, then rest the following the day.

Drinking soda and eating bad food will affect your performance, too. If I drink Coke before training (which I have done), I find that I have no energy to perform.

Cycling is a very good cardio exercise, and may be better than running. Take things slowly and see how you feel.

That helps. When you get that rhythm stuck in your head, it keeps reminding you to breathe deeply. It is natural to start to breathe more shallow when you are exercising, so you have to figh that natural instinct.

Always drink plenty of water when you are exercising. That is very important. And fruits will give you nutrition without filling you up so that you don't get sick to your stomach while exercising.

Yeah, last year when I had gym class, every wednesday we had to run around the gym room for 3 minutes without stopping and they had music going on to help us keep motivated to run. I have lunch and after lunch was gym class for me. And i dreaded jogging alot. Other times i don't mind doing pushups, situps, jump roping, jumping jacks, hopping, etc. but joggging is the one thing i just dreaded. But for lunch our school always give out bad food. But i drink propel water that they let us buy during lunchtime. So sometimes i would sneak a propel water in my gym back when i have gym class. :giggle:

Breathing when I run is probably why my side pains start to hurt. I'm trying to get out more. My dad thought it was just because I was out of shape. Maybe. I don't know. Hopefully when i finished practicing my piano to memorize a song for Marching band, i'll get outside and ride my bike around the neighboorhood or play soccer. Maybe take my dog out for a walk. The last time i tried taking my dog out for a walk, we were half way there to go back home and she didn't want to walk anymore, so she layed down on our street.. And i kept telling her: "we're almost home. I'll get you a big glass of water to drink if you keep walking with me" SO she finaly gave in and we finally got home.

You need drink lot of WATER!! Its very important!! Also try to eat banana that will prevent from having cramps whole the time!

lol i'm going to try and limit myself to only one pop a day or one pop once a week. ANd i'm trying to use the Seventeen Magazine or CosmoGirl! magazine food diet plan and excercise they give out when a new issue comes out. I just practiced my piano and i'm waiting to go to my hair appointment. Then after that i'm going to try and practice some more on the piano to memorize a song completely for band camp and work on my scales. Then I'm going to go outside and work my butt of to get in shape maybe lol.

I used had pain on my side when I running for almost everyday. Pain will gone in few days. You will be fine.

I'll try and limit my pop drinking to only one pop. No more than that. I've been eating fruits. And i'll try and eat a banana while I can. I'll bring a banana with me on monday Marching band practice for lunch. I'm staying there all day from 9AM-9PM.

Did you eat or drink anything right before you exercise? If so then wait 30 minute or more before you start. You can drink water during break or when it's needed though.

Other than that, I would ask instructor who's expert in that field (physical fitness) for reasons and tips though. Best to ask professional before assume anything for yourself.

If you are addicted to soda like I am, then try diet soda instead, lol.

lol good. Ignore those advice from magazines. Personally - I think it's unrealistic and impractical. Diet plan is fairly simple. The hardest part about it is preparing it in advance and sticking to it. You pretty much just eat 5 small meals a day so that you won't be starving.

Eat proteins, pasta, veggie, fruits. that's it. Drink water. Don't drink none of those sport drinks like propel or vitamin water. It's junk and full of sugar. Just stick with Gatorade so that you won't pass out during exercise - gotta keep your sodium and electrolyte level high when you're sweating profusely from a good hard training.

I highly recommend you to consult with the professional (physical trainer, doctor, etc) to make sure you do not have any health problem and to come up with a simple, effective plan. Yes it's bit costly but it's worth it because a few hundred bucks because we're talking about a few hundred bucks of training that will change you for lifetime.

To make training easier - I do suggest you to join a sport or have a partner.

I'll try and drink diet soda. My mom has Coke zero in the garage. So..

Sounds like you have a stubborn dog!:giggle: Good luck with memorizing your piece for marching band.
