Wow, this sounds interesting. Of course, this could be a long way to go for us humans. We're usually behind by years and years from animals.

Modifying a virus with pieces of human chromosomes is being considered for a lot of different therapies. Cancer for one. The hope is that the cancer cells can be rid of their ability to reproduce. Repair of the optic nerve is another, as is spinal injury repair. Some really promising stuff so far.
