Hey all,
I started losing my hearing a couple of months ago and we thought it was from medication (ototoxicity). Then I began having episodic vertigo. I have seen an audiologist and was dx with a 30 db loss (35 in left ear). I was referred to an ENT who suspected Meniere's and sent me for bloodwork and MRI. I am going for an ENG and ESBR later this month. Anyone ever have these done? What can I expect as I'm nervous!?
My bloodwork came back with a positive ANA and elevated autoimmune complements. There is a likely chance I have systemic lupus now and will be seeing a rheumatologist.
Has anyone had an experience similar to this? I have read that in some cases lupus can cause dizziness and sensorineural loss. I have also read that people with lupus are more susceptible to developing Meniere's. Too many theories and too few answers right now!
In the meantime, I'm living in "hearing limbo" and falling quite frequently from the dizziness. :dizzy:

I haven't experienced any of these conditions you've described, however, once in a great while, I'll have a bout of vertigo....

Looks like you're going through a rough and anxious time--however, I sure wish you the best and whatever it may be, it's something that can be greatly taken care of with minimal side effects..in which you'll feel a whole lot better. Hang in there--!! ;)

try to go to a natropathic doctor ND,MD

Since lupus is an autoimmune disorder you need to be checked for
food sensitivities and allergies.
Menieres sometimes responds to Ginko Biloba.
Check your family medical history too.
Is there a history of autoimmune illness?
Is there a history of food allergies.
Sometimes hearing loss can be traced to a viral
infection in the ear. If this is the case then
L-Lysine taken on an empty stomach may help
stop further damage. (empty stomach is
necessary to prevent competition with other
amino acids in food)
hope all goes well.

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses and suggestions (didn't really think of the allergy thing, but I do have *severe* food allergies in my family). Saw a new dr today and I am getting a referral to yet another specialist and some *more* bloodwork, xrays, tests etc etc etc. Dr today said he doesn't think it is lupus because my autoimmune titers would be low and they are high, so that is good news. We're back to Meniere's (which he thinks is the most likely culprit) or a different autoimmune disease...Anyone seen the show "House MD"?? That's my favorite! Maybe he could dx me. :giggle:
