My boyfriend and I recently got a hearing puppy a few weeks ago. We are both deaf. How is the best way to teach our puppy sign commands? We voice while signing to her.

Dogs are great at learning sign. Just be consistent and make sure you always use the same sign for the same command.

Ok. Thank you. I have been doing that. But I think she is just stubborn because she Is only a puppy and 3 months old.

Yes, and it also takes a lot of repetition for them to understand. Just like a very small child.

The very first thing you need to teach them, and might be obvious for some, is eye contact. You should reward them for every time he/she looks at you. So they will eventually get that it's a good thing to look in your general direction for you sign to them. Usually, using a clap to initiate that you want them to start looking in your direction is the way to go, and from there, you can command them with sign to do anything else.

In the puppy phase (up to 6 months), i bought raw chicken and boiled it and fed the pup the meat for training treats. Good luck. Patience and perseverance will do it.
Congrats on the new addition to the family!

I had a hearing dog and he did very good with hand signals . I used both voice and hand signals and I think he listen to me better with hand signals. What kind of puppy did you get , I would love to her. Hint , hint!

my thoughts if getting working dog then do it official way be trained by dog trainers can take couple of years do it,Or have dog as pet if it any good as hearing dog then that a bonus
