So...some of you bought HD-DVD player. some of you bought blu-ray player. It's gonna be one long battle for both formats. Anyway, I've bought mine recently and I seem to like it alot thou I watched one called "the fast and the furious" on hd-dvd and can see that the resloution is near perfect on my 19' LCD VGA monitor. The subtitles' perfectly clear to read as well. I've used the subtitles on standard DVDs and it is rather terrible since the subtitles look as it was enlarged and almost like late 1980s computer texting or something lol. King Kong and The Fast And The Furious are the only HD-DVDs I have now...will look for more as I can.

Right now as many of you know, I've heard from gamespot.com awhile back when HD-DVD player was released saying that using it thru VGA gives true 1080p while by using HD components on HDTV may only give 1080i instead but both images on either VGA or HDTV would look just fine. I'm thankful for my VGA thou I understand it lacks HDMI but I dont think it really matters for now since I can see and hear the movie just clearly enough as I expected.

Anyway, what are the good movies you think I should get on HD-DVD? :)

Hulk. I heard it's the best PQ yet on HD-DVD. (PQ = Picture Quality).

You can count me out since I dont have an HD-DVD player anymore cause I've returned it LMAO

so rather wait 'til DVDs are excint like VHS someday then will choose either blu-ray or HD-DVD that have won the format war.

I doubt about DVD will die but DVD is support on standard since BD is on HD.

The day will come when BD and HD DVD die.(HD DVD probably already is looking at its grave) I think the DVD format will stick around longer than HD DVD itself and coexist with BD for a while, until BD players become the norm, and BD discs are found everywhere including Blockbuster.

Yup, that's true. :)

I got it and love it, also picture quality is ALOT different from DVD when watch on 1080i via HD-DVD on Xbox 360.

I sold my HD-DVD. I am seeing LOT of blu-ray movies looking good so far.

My suggestion to stick with blu-ray. It is going to win over HD-DVD.

then you cannot watch Universal Studio movies on true HD. ;)

I have wondered if HD-DVD can play regular DVD? Sorry but as you can see I have never bought anything HD related (HD-DVD, HDTV, etc.) So I am behind on that type of technology already.

I wonder if PS3 have played some role into Blue-ray winning the war (well if blue-ray have won, that is)?

HD-DVD player will play regular DVD, of course but HD-DVD add-on will force all regular DVD (fullscreen) to expands into widescreen, if not want one then play on standard DVD drive via Xbox 360.

It's true that PS3 has helped sale of BD to skyrocketing but both of BD or HD-DVD hasn't judge to win yet.

Blu Ray is winning now since they use 50 GB disc. Which they can use large picture quality on one disc. DVD use 4 gb and they has to use lower top quality picture to fit in it. HD DVD has somewhat 20 gb disc I think. So Blu Ray is our future movie disc. I remembered when first DVD came out it was not poplaur when many people still use VHS. I remembered first DVD player cost over 800 dollars then now they are under 80 bucks. Blu Ray players are dropping price to 499 dollars now. I saw Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray Players, Movies, Recorders, Media and Software they talk about many movie businesses are turning to blu ray now. Disney is making their 3d animations on Blu Ray. I sold all my 3d animation collections because I am eyeing for BD 3d animations. I would suggest yall not to get HD DVD because they will lose the battle. Blu Ray is going up. You can keep DVD player until Blu Ray players drop to under 200 bucks which would prolly be 2 years from now

HD-DVD is 15GB for 1x and 30GB for 2x.

Both HD DVD and Blu-Ray players can play standard DVDs.

Though I'll like to clear up one misconception about the full name for HD DVD. It's not 'High Definition Digital Versatile Disc', it's 'High Density Digital Versatile Disc'.

I can see why people would get that impression from the name though. It was the same with DVD, people thought it stood for 'Digital Video Disc' when it in fact stood for 'Digital Versatile Disc'.

Sony is going to start selling some of their Blu-Ray players for $499 USD. So I think we'll see lower prices even sooner. I remember the first wave of DVD players in 1997 and boy, they were expensive. Many were priced at $1,500 and upwards.

A single-layered DVD is 4.7 GB while a dual-layered DVD is 9.4 GB. A single-layered HD DVD is 15 GB while a dual-layered DVD is 30 GB. However, the problem with HD DVD is that it still can use either dual-layered disc or double-sided disc. People in general hate double-sided disc because it's relatively easy to smear with fingerprints (which is a bad thing) and not too difficult to scratch if not handled carefully.

Now, I do have to say that I'm not thrilled at the idea that a single-layered HD DVD is only a tad more than 5.5 GB bigger than a dual-layered DVD while a single-layered Blu-Ray disc is around 15 GB more than a dual-layered DVD.

Big difference right there. Even with a dual-layered HD DVD, a dual-layered Blu-Ray is 50 GB, that's a 20 GB difference right there. Not only to mention that HD DVD has no special technology to protect them from scratches, smears, etc while Blu-Ray has hard-coating technology. It's incredibly important that high density discs are better protected because more data are put into a small space in comparison to a standard DVD. One little scratch can cause a large amount of data to be lost, much more than a standard DVD. To me, it's all about protecting the data that makes it a priority.

I am not willing to compromise the quality of storage in exchange of reduced costs.

You get what you pay for.

How about most households cannot afford HDTV right now.
Strategy Analytics: LCD And Plasma TVs Drive 32 Percent Growth in 2006 Digital Home Market. | Business solutions from AllBusiness.com
It's now approximately 37% households have LCD, plasma flat screen.
They will waiting for drop price for e.g.: a 47-inch LCD TV with 1080p is current about $2,299, so many people have to wait until these prices will be drop those plasma/LCD flat-screen for about less than $900.

Also, most people would be not buy until the price under or about $200 for Blu-Ray player.

You know, Sony just released a $500 (retail price) Blu-ray player. So we'll probably be seeing lower prices later this year.

I sold HD-DVD add-on with 5 movies to my friend.

I don't need this shit, now... I'm BD supporter...
