Played the 360 at Walmart on Hwy 100 and Layton (WI) today for the first time. The layout is bad for a demo since the screen is so high and you're constantly looking up and the controller is low so comments could be skewed by non-optimal set-up.
My first impression is that the interface, blades, etc are very cool, look awesome, open and close fast, and are very sharp graphics. Good layout of options, very intuitive and easy to navigate around. Hexic HD was fun and looked great too.
The controller felt small in my hands and it seemed my fingers were in ackward positions trying to use the shoulder buttons. I would've preferred the controller width to be a little bigger and the grips to be smaller. The sticks and the d-pad were very solid! The Guide button on the controller is very cheap and feels "loose" in the controller. Poor design on the Guide button in my opinion.
Played all 3 games. COD2, Kameo, and King Kong in that order. The initial shot of you in the back of the truck driving in the desert is awesome. Vibrant colors, planes buzzing around, chatter going on. You're instantly in the world. Dropped off in the combat zone, the %^&$ hits the fan right away. I decided to check out the things people have been raving about and the smoke IS awesome. Textures are fantastic and realism seems very, very good.
But the "jaggies" are horrible. Looking around the city there are issues with AA everywhere. The barrels, the canopies, the edges of buildings, etc. It was very bad and I expected a lot better. My PC looks much better in this dept (ATI 9800 Pro). Is there a chance the demo is not 4XAA enabled? I see other people reporting seeing the same things. They may have appeared to be worse than expected since you have to stand so close to the screen playing the demo but they could also look worse on a bigger HDTV screen.
Kameo looked good but only spent a short time with it. Jaggies present there too but not nearly as many instances.
King Kong was a surprise. The hair looked excellent and the T-Rex was cool too. Rex got a hold of Kong's throat and game over.
Overall I was disappointed in the quality of the graphics. Yes I've been following the X360 news from Day 1, have my pre-order in, and read the boards every day. My expectations were/are high but this is the HD-era right? I hope MS will clarify the state of the games in the demo as far as AA goes.
I just source this from forums xbox
