I got job and started orientation and training session, also it was started at 8 am until 5 pm then again on Friday for 8 am until 5 pm but real work is start on Saturday night, just start at 10 pm until 7 am.

In Jan 2007, Wal-Mart has changing their dress code into uniform but depends on shift, also wear navy shirt (t-shirt, collar or whatever) and not wear vest anymore. For me, I'm work on 3rd shift and allow workers to wear jean and park on front of parking lot.

I had noticed that style is changing and not wear vest anymore.

yes i have for working with disabled people when i was younger. i learned a lot. most jobs require training. not all of them though.

Ya my very first job i was in orientation for 2 weeks all day everyday. I am still friends with everyone in that orientation almost 8 years later eventhough we don't work at same companies anymore. Job i am at now, orientation 2 hours doesn't make sense for that short of time but oh well.

My husband works at Wal-mart at sporting dept. He told me about the new dress code. I think it's more proper that way to show that they are a employee not looking like a customers that wears everyday clothes. Orientation was a long one for him and he has to read and answers all the question on the computer. Congrats on your new job. Hey, you'll get a discount at Wal-mart.:)

Every year during the week before school opens for the year, all staff at my work have to go thru a week's worth of orienation and training. They range from discussion of education laws, CPR , First Aid training, new policies, and blah blah blah..Some of the are repeative and I just fall asleep. :giggle:

Walfart here in my town- people still wear vests...

BTW, Congrats!!! Getting job at Wal*Mart

As for training on my job, my boss trained me on site during the business was open. Now I will have to train a new person how to run the counter on wed..

Ooopss...I forgot to say congrats.

Congrats on getting a new job, Pacman! :)

I went through a 2 weeks intensive orientation and part of my job is to process the medical databases. So of course, I was repetitively preached about the HIPAAs Law (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) which is about protecting the privacy of patient's informations. Otherwise, I had learned way a lot about the medical terminologies, such as that. I don't want to bore you all with the details of it.

Anyhow, I'm liking that job so far and the people I work with are very understanding when it comes to work with a deaf employee. At first they were reluctant and unsure how to unionize with a deaf employee. It took them a while to understand how to work with me and after a while, it's a well oiled system that my co-workers and I have. It's all good.

By the way, Congratulations Pacman ;)

A friend of mine who works at WalMart here in this town has also mentioned about the change of dress code. He mumbled and muttered about it but I think it will put a much better professional approach when the dress code changes to improve things around.

It will take some time to change for most 1st and 2nd shift. :laugh2:

Thanks for congrat... :)

I bet that your favorite store department is Target?

My orientation is completed today, also only on 2 days on from 8 am until 5 pm then my work start tomorrow at 10 pm to 7am.

Any reason for this uniform change?

Last time I checked, they had blue, red, dark green, and maroon for different locations and positions. Hmm...

Yea, I remember about HIPAA and it was adopted in few years ago.

Of course, new dress code is much better and more style, also no longer to wear vest anymore and some workers are prefer to wear navy shirt with tan pant now but all of them will wear that in Jan and not know about when start. I'm happy to being 3rd shift and allow us to wear jeans and park car on front of parking lot.

There's ASL video on computer that deaf people can understand about what they said and it was called CBL workstation, also it was training session and answer this question before start due.

because its easier to consumer to identity and new style, also vest is old style. :ugh:

Nah, in start Jan and all of workers (most 1st and 2nd shift) are wear navy shirt (t-shirt, collar or whatever) and tan pant.

It was similar to Target and Best Buy.

I am starting to buy things from Walmart more from Target cuz of their reasonable prices. In fact, we bought a brand new leather computer/desk chair from Walmart cuz they were selling them for $48 as opposed to $100 at Target. Very comfy too!

The clothes at Target are starting to bore me cuz they have a small section for plus size women while Walmart has a huge section and more variety.

hi everyone just thought i would add my two cents in....i work at walgreens and i didnt receive ANY training....they just stuck me at a cash register and told me to figure it out.....lol

Yes, I went thru 8 weeks of 24/7 orientation when I joined the Navy--it was called "boot camp". :P

At my place of work, I received first two days orientation with the human resources reps, explaining everything about the company policies, insurance, benefits, etc... Then I worked in training for four weeks. I was then put on a six-month probationary period (which is the normal protocol for all new employees). During that probationary period, we learn on our own to process all the things, and then any errors are treated as "learning" aides for us to train on specific areas.

After six months period, we pass a test, then are considered as full member of the company workforce. That means, we start receiving monthly productivity bonus, quarterly bonus, additional benefits such as tutition reimbursement.

I really enjoy the company I work for very much.
