Hey thanks everyone. LOL 75 and still hiking, what's the secret? Actually At the top of Gobbler's Peak, we found this awesome heavy duty plastic PVC tube with lid on one side. Inside it was a big notepad with pencils to write your name, etc... I read through it a bit, and saw one entry saying "My last hike here was 50 years ago, and I am here for my 50th Year Reunion!" I thought "oh wow, he must be at least 68 years old and still ascended the peak.
It was a long and a very tough hike, but I am glad we both made it up to the top! We took a wrong path and ended up at the summit of Gobbler's Knob, which was 10,246 feet above the sea level. Mt. Raymond was 1 1/2 miles away and just 5 feet lower at 10,241 feet. My boyfriend got affected by altitude sickness so luckily I had some birthday cake with me and gave it to him and he felt fit again. The summit is 6000 feet higher than the Salt Lake City downtown, and we hiked 3000 feet elevation gain. Whoo hoo.
My bf's entry into logbook:
"Well this is it, we made it up here. Happy Birthday!" or something to that effect. I wrote in Vietnamese "cám ơn! Anh yêu em, em yêu anh!" (thank you! I love you!) And I continued in German: "Heute ist mein 29. Geburtstag. Die Aufsteig hat mir sehr gut gefällt, und ich hoffe dass ich später hier wieder aufsteigen werde! Hier ist es sehr schön!" (Today is my 29th birthday. The climb made me very happy, and I hope that I will climb up here again! It's very beautiful here!"
Took some photos of the mountains on top, and also some of the wildflowers. Very beautiful. Will show you later when I have it developed and printed.
Have a great day everyone and thanks again.
