or prank calls as well?

lol it would be kinda funny if you make a prank call over at 911 asking the operator if he/she has the refridgeator on or something...and then the operator would go like, "duhhh..." lol

i wonder if 911 get prank calls?? cuz they can trace the calls and bust their asses! lol...

Usually our 'prank' calls involve kids on the phone saying someone is being kidnapped or robbed. We usually don't get prank calls on 911 as this is a serious offense and you can be arrested (and the calls are traced). As I previously mentioned, most people *think* they have an emergency so you really can't do anything to them (emergency or not).

I think the biggest abuse of the system is to get even with ex-boyfriends (women seem to do this more than men). They will call on the non-emergency line and their boyfriend has been kidnapped and that they know who took him and where he is being held. Unfortunately, its an ex-girlfriend getting even so the guy hasn't been kidnapped and is having a.....lets say 'nice evening' with his newest love.

We also get a lot of people that are off their meds. I took a call the other night from a lady who said her girlfriend had been kidnapped and knew where she was at. Things like this, the truth generally comes out. The more I started talking to this woman, I learned that her friend had alledgedly been drugged and kidnapped......by aliens dressed as people. After they do their testing on her, she was going to be sent to Vietnam. In Vietnam, the aliens had made her a POW and she had escaped...they finally caught up with her and were taking her back to Vietnam....

I'm sure you get the idea :ugh:
 
Talyor is right about the varying degrees of "emergency". Our department does not have direct connection to the state 911 (although I AM pushing for it). Instead, 911 calls are routed to our regular lines. One recent ice storm, a girl called 911 because her locks were frozen on her car. I did send an officer, but she happened to get in. Then, she called back and wanted the officer to clean her windshield. I told her that she would have to use the heat to melt the ice. That what happened with the ambulance. Luckily, the only call for them was a non-emergency, and the commander responded in his personal vehicle and stood with the patient until the rescue was unfrozen.

Our department, being a university, does get alot of calls for "saferide'. Some calls are legit, but alot are just lazy students who can't walk. Sometimes, 50 calls like this a night. The administration needs to change some things to stop these calls coming into the emergency dispatch center.
