Sonomax System is the Future of Hearing Protection in Europe. Hagemeyer is launching SonoCustom(TM) from Sonomax Hearing Healthcare Inc. at the Safety and Health Expo (Birmingham NEC May 17th-19th 2005). It will be the first time the health and safety industry in the United Kingdom will see and have the chance to be fitted for the Sonomax(TM) hearing protection system.

Hearing protection has traditionally been uncomfortable, ineffective and unmeasurable, and in the case of disposable plugs - the same size and shape for every worker regardless of the level of noise exposure. The SonoCustom(TM) has acoustic filters that effectively eliminate 'toxic noise' dangers whilst still permitting the user to hear voice communications. Each system is custom-fitted to the wearer and adapted by a bespoke computer software process to a safe noise exposure level for the employee. Extremely comfortable, the new SonoCustom(TM) reduces the chance that wearers will remove their hearing protection when it starts to cause discomfort, as they often do with other products.
It's the first hearing product that can be qualitatively and quantitatively tested for measurable and safe hearing protection. Allowing safe noise into the ear, the Sonomax system lasts for three years, which will also lead to a reduction in the waste associated with disposable plugs. Cost savings can also be shown against foam earplugs.
Up to 81,000 employees in the UK reported work related hearing problems during 2003/2004. Recent research estimates that 170,000(x) people in the UK suffer deafness, tinnitus or other ear conditions as a result of exposure to excessive noise in the workplace. In light of these statistics and the forthcoming EU legislation on hearing protection in 2006, the launch of SonoCustom(TM) comes at a critical time now that hearing protection is gaining more attention in the UK than ever.
