Most state health officials are reporting regional or sporadic influenza activity. Six states (Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina) and Puerto Rico are reporting widespread influenza activity at this time. Any reports of widespread influenza activity in August are very unusual.

I believe it!! Florida seeing a high amount of flu like symptoms. Florida is not testing everyone for Swine Flu . Majority of the doctors are recommending people with flu like symptoms to stay home, rest, Drink plenty of fluids. Most cases are without complications. Only the High Risk group with complications should go to a Doctor.

Great links, Sallylou

Thanks, Barbaro. You can tell that we're the info junkies here, huh?

An aside here--you can also sign up to received FDA updates. I signed up to have the alerts sent to my email address and my mobile phone. Mostly food recalls but also some medical devices.

I have bad news for my old friend at school. He is at the ICU in TX. He has swine flu and pneumonia. He is staying at hospital for almost 2 weeks. I saw my friends' status to ask people to pray for him. This is very serious condition!

My friend warned us about swine flu at her school. It scare her as hell. The people are wearing mask in their mouths in our hometown. I better stay away from people with swine flu or cold flu because I'm pregnant. I forget to ask my doctor about H1N1 vaccine during pregnancy. Darn it! I guess I will ask my doctor next 4 weeks.

I don't want to get swine flu during winter. That's very scary!!!!!!

Pinky, you're in a high risk category (pregnant) so you should consider getting the vaccine when it's available. You might want to talk to your OB about it.

I know that. I forget to ask her during my ob/gyn appt this morning. I have to email her and ask her.

That's good news! I asked to my OB/GYn doctor about H1N1 vaccination and FLU vaccination and they said it's safe for pregnancy! I will go to family doctor to get both vaccinations on Oct 6th. Hooray!!!! I don't want to get any flu this winter during pregnancy.

Just recovering from it myself. It wasnt too bad considering. Just chest pain, fatigue and a little dizziness. Now, all the symptoms are gone but just very tired today. Wasnt a big deal. Whew!

Oh. did you get swine flu?? I hope you get the vaccination. I will get vaccinations next Tuesday. I can't wait!

My local clinic told me that there is no titer available. They recommend getting the vaccination. The first vaccines available will be nasal spray which are not for people with asthma. I'll wait for the old fashioned shots.

Shel90, that sucks you had caught it. Be grateful you're fine. Do you plan to get H1N1 flu shot?

I know several ones who plan to not get H1N1 flu shots for personal reasons such as mercury.

Indeed, that's what I am told that mercury isn't an antigen, it's a heavy metal. Canned tuna has much more mercury in it than does any vaccine.

I am not going to take the flu mist. Ew. Some will go for thimersol-free vaccines.

Thanks...

Yes, I plan on getting the regular and H1N1 flu shots. I am so tired of getting the flu constantly. It is getting tiresome.

Yeppers, a mild case. Wasnt too bad. I have been worse off with the regular flu.

Pinky, I craved spicy fried cajun shrimp when I was pregnant. I'd eat a huge bowl all by myself. Apparently this didn't harm my child, though. :giggle:
