Grief, Guilt, and the Loss of an unborn child

I hate to debate or discussion about abortions or terminate the pregnant just because of some health issues..

Well, our family friend have 7 kids.. the last child is SEVERE health issues.. he is now 12 years old, deaf & partily blind, down sydrome, tube in tummy for feeding, still wears diapers, non-stop illness like pneumonia, fever, colds, etc.. he have walking problems but he can walk.. when he was very sick, he stays in bed or wheelchair.. his iq levels are still toddler stage.. he couldnt stay with their parents or someone, he always roam & got lost, sometimes he doesnt know what NO means.. he is suffering himself .. its not fair for him living like that.. so his parents were against abortions.. Till now .. they supported some abortions cuz they went through with their child and child's sufferings..

I may agreed and I may not agreed.. its so hard issues to discussions..

:)

I do agree that for abortion to be done -- is for good reasons like what SG and others pointed out. Still, it's such a painful and hard decision to make, you know?

It is also a decision that should be left up to the couple, or if the woman is unmarried, her alone. We do not have the right to sit here and judge what this couple did, or any other couple possibly facing this situation.

Yes, exactly. Nobody can say what they will do in a situation like that until they are faced with it, and nobody has the right to judge them. It doesn't matter if we agree or disagree with the decision, it's still not up to us.

True, but on the other hand.....I judge parents who abort simply b/c their child may face disabilties. Doctors aren't always right.....and the genetic counseling that parents get is very often biased b/c it's so bleak sounding. I think that parents of kids who get dx prenatally with disabilties and conditions should be required by law to meet real life people with disabilties...it just irritates the hell out of me when I read something like "Oh we chose to abort b/c most Downs Syndrome kids are so profoundly retarded that they don't even know where they are!" or "We wanted to prevent our child from a painful life" (about spina bifida) There's a HUGE HUGE difference and varience in all these different types of disabilties!

I don't believe in aborting babies and if it is a Down Syndrome child, I will take good care of it.....he/she should be treated as almost equal as a normal child.
When my mother's doctor left for that workday while she was pregnant with me, another doctor took his place temporarily. This doctor was shocked at my mother for not having an abortion because she contracted German Measles while preg. with me. But she did not have an abortion....she didn't believe in murdering kids. So, if she did, I would'nt been here today...and all I had when I was born was a heart defect! I looked normal, etc.
I believe that abortion is acceptable only when the mother's life is in danger.
