grey hair... :D

My friend who have same age as I am. She has only one or two grey. wtf! I have more than pepper hair and heavy white streak in front. :hisssssing:

My hair is dark brown with a sprinkling of gray highlights. :D I'm sure others see more gray than I do.

I started going grey at 16. At that point I had one section in the front that was total silver/grey. A few years later, I had a bad, bad reaction to some hair color and went totally bald. When the hair grew back, it was thicker, and my same natural auburn color, but the grey is now evenly distributed all over. I have decided to leave it. Like Jillio, I have earned them. I know I have at lot more grey since coming back to Florida, but then again, I have totally earned those and more.

My mother started going grey in her 40's. Now, she has vitiligo and her hair is totally white (?) or basically has no pigment at all. It's baby fine and when you pull it all together for a pony tail, it's only as thick as a baby's thumb. You can see her scalp through it.

Anytime you try to color grey or white hair with a red dye or henna, it will turn pink or bright orange. Horrid! That is why mine is going natural. I don't want to have to change my hair color completely, and red dye on grey hair just turns out UGLY!:giggle:

Yeah ,I found that out after I used henna! I use have dyes by a hair colorist but it getting to be a pain to keep up with roots . I do not color my hair anymore. I wish it would turn all white but I don't think it will , my momlived to be 93 yo and she did not have all white hair.

My mom was like that. She died at age 92, somewhat gray, but still had a lot of dark hair underneath. I am way more gray now, at age 61, than she was when she died.

Count me a radical, too. My son asked me over Thanksgiving why I didn't color my grey. Told him it was too much upkeep. Plus, I have earned this grey. Actually, though, mine is not going grey so much as it is getting white a streak at a time. My nephew has gorgeous salt and pepper grey, and has had since he was about 25. I wish I had his grey.

Not just that, hair dye products contain thousands and thousands of chemicals. So you have to think twice of what you are putting into your body by using these products. Not to mention that there have been studies linking them to non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

And they have also been linked to relapses of Lupus.

red heads dont grey as bad, and yes some people have those great salt and pepper greys, I have SILVER not grey it actually quite good as i hav chestnut brown (nice kind of fine hair)...

Frisky,
if id you, look up on low or no ammonia coloring solutions, ask the saloon for low or NO ammonia, why? risks of cancer from these chemicals it gets into your bloodstream via your scalps and hair roots (seriously). I have read that a number of saloon worker stricken with cancers coming from such chemical based colouring agents.

So... insist on using natural hair colourers...finding a reputable saloon which specialise or offer these safer alternative should be your priority too

more so, I actually know of one stricken with cancer but she survived it...and they should (some do) wearing those thin baggy plastic gloves for colouring, not so for the 'dyeing colour damage' but for the prevention from those chemicals...hell they shouldnt even be using it...as it goes on the person whos changing the hair colour!...theres more risk for saloon workers as they exposed to it too often...but still doesnt mean you're safe, never listen to bribed scientists on behalf of hair product companies saying low percentages....

Hey, Frisky - does your salon do a color touch-up? My stylist does, it's just a quick root color that doesn't cost as much as a full dye job.

Yes, I once had a few grey pairs on my hair (Remember my old thread?? :D). Now, I have some more grey pairs... Meh.

yes they do but still the same price for cut and touch up even if it reduces $ or color dye when i only ask for color. i will come back to the hair salon after i dye color my hair for 4 to 8 weeks . i didnt want to have my hair cut yet for another 6 to 8 weeks. growing hair longer is pretty tough for me lol.

I'll be damned to see somebody who have no grey at all. I have some grey hair and use natural dye hair which isn't last that long. It is better than nothing.

I tried not to feel stress, but I still have some stress. Oh well.

You guys know that stress caused it originally.

I am a sort of concerned about the dye chemicals. I think that it is the best thing is not to put too much dye in the roots/skin. The dye should be on the hair as a least it is better safe than sorry. I believe that natural dye package is better than a standard dye package with few chemicals. Note, clay dye contains aluminum in it which is not good...

It depends on the hair. Some hair dye last longer than others depending on what kind of hair you have. Also, how easy it is to apply depends on the hair as well. If you have long hair, it may be harder to do it since you have more hair. When you have to dye it again, you won't be dying the whole head... but just the roots (which is harder).

Just grab pen/paper and head to your local hair supply store (like Sally's Beauty/Hair Supply). Talk to the people that work there. It's likely they will know their products. Take notes on those products. Then go to other stores like Walmart/Target to see if those stores sell those products. Take notes there too. Finally, check out a few places that will do your hair for you. Check those services and prices. (If it's a few dollars more, it might be worth it since someone's doing it for you. If it's too much more, you're probably better off doing it yourself.)

LOL thank you everyone for replying this thread.

I asked my friend and she tried many different brand of color hair and she felt that clariol works wonderfully covered the grey as much as possible. I really want john frieda but my other friend told me that it did not cover grey hair enough. SO I am not sure between clariol or revlon but more likely clariol.

I want to tell you that I have tried both Naturtint and Surya Brasil brands. They are just better. Actually, the Naturtint is better than Surya Brasil because it holds the color longer. My mother went to Salon for coloring her hair, and they use the Naturtint - I can't remember right now if it is Naturitint, but I still recall about they strictly use the natural ones.

In fact, Clariol contains so powerful chemicals. Revion is also bad, too.

My Mom said that Surya Brasil is the best of all because of real natural chemicals.

Gray Magic is available at your local beauty supply. Add a few drops to your home coloring. It's a tiny bottle and not expensive. I think salons use it. Google Gray Magic for specifics.
