SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Officials accuse a 51-year-old San Antonio grandmother of phoning a bomb threat to an elementary school that wouldn't let her visit her grandchildren.

The state jail Web site says Velma Gladys Brewster was free on bond Friday after being charged with making a terrorist threat to Windcrest Elementary School in northeastern San Antonio. More than 700 students and faculty members evacuated the campus Thursday after school officials received a threatening voicemail.

No explosives were found. A phone message left at Brewster's home Friday was not returned.

Police said Brewster didn't have permission from her daughter to visit her grandchildren at the school.

Wow, that's certainly a good reason to threaten to bomb your granddaughter's school. (*Sarcasm*)

 What a dedicated grandmother!! Wonder why her daughter did not give permission to visit?

Good question. My hunch is that she's controlling and doesn't like not getting her way.

When I first saw this, I was like WHAT?

there has to be a reason why the daughter didn't want her mother to visit the kids at school... besides, it's SCHOOL! not really a place for a proper visit. oy! some people...

Bomb threat? Now that's a sure way to get a wide welcoming invitation!

I've "threatened" my boys middle school too....the reason was:

Breakfast!!

They ride the bus and eat b'fast & lunch at school. After getting off the bus in the AM, they line up to get b'fast.....and more times than not, the school bell rings before they can get into the cafeteria......

I complained (via phone) twice and nothing happened, so I went to see the Principal and told him about the problem. I expect my boys to eat b'fast, it's an important meal to start the day! Still, I got the run around!....So I threatened to go to the School Board and our District Rep.

Well, the next day, my son got off the bus and got in line.....the Principal ran out, and took my son in front of the line! Saying...ur Mom is gonna call the School Board if you don't get breakfast.

This year, the same thing is happening!...So I've got to go back to the school and make more threats.

Who's fault is this? It's been going on even before all the budget cuts!

Any suggestions? But not saying they can eat at home....we are always running and they have to catch the bus on time!

I would say that Granny just blew her chances for more visits with the kids.

Get up a half hour earlier and fix breakfast. My son rode a bus, too. In fact, he rode two buses because he had to transfer to get to St. Rita's. He got on the bus every morning at 5:50 AM. And he had breakfast in in stomach every single morning before he got on the bus. It's called being personally responsible for your child.

I am personally responsible for my children. They have b'fast & lunch money everyday. If the school is offering b'fast & lunch, the children should be able to eat. Many parents have to leave for work earlier, some are elderly.

My thoughts were to open the cafeteria earlier, so the lines would flow faster. Or hire more workers. Buses arrive at different times. Soon as my boys get off their bus, they get "in line". If the bell rings, they have to head for class, or risk being tardy.

I will again talk with the school Principal about this problem. Not just for my own children, but for the other children too.

The federal government provides only a certain amount of funding for breakfast programs. That funding covers operation during specific hours and provides for the pay of a certain number of employees. And schools have to start their academic day on time.

Yes, that she did.

There's more to this story than what it is telling. For whatsoever reason the daughter is not permitting the grandmother to visit the children at school has to be really something serious in order to bar her from visiting the kids.

But, come on, a bomb threat? That was not a smart move.

Maybe she was gonna bomb because they were going to show the Presidential speech...:giggle:
