Hey, can you image that you got bonus from your work 16 years ago. And were asked to pay back due to miscalculation?

I would balk and bring it to court, why? Simple put I pay taxes on it 16 years ago and IRS will not honor any changes made that is over 7 years ago. Really it does not matter how long ago. If accountant made mistake, that accountant is held liable not the employees or anyone else.

Ga. County Ask Employees to Return Bonus —From 1994 - It overpaid $39,690.46, and it wants every cent back

That government action is not acceptable!

16 years old? This is not justificable. Need to apply whoever is responsible for error. If the person made mistake and allow bonus pay out, that person should be held liable not the employees. Simple put, if I get bonus, I do not know how they calculate, how am I supposed to know? I also believe there should be statute of limitation with 3 years.

I think they will have to negotiate this.

How about coins that have a face value of one dollar that also have a numismatic value of hundreds of thousands?

How much will the government pay for those?

I have been owe to IRS for half decade. And yet, they tell me they make mistake and give me refund checking. Hmm... I see nothing wrong with it :) I decide to put that checking in my saving. tee-hee

Hmmm how old that mistake was before they discovered and refunded to you? Well, IMHO it is up to them if it is beyond 3 years. Less than three years then I can understand.

What happened to the statute of limitations?
