GOP pick Ron Paul and Mitt Romney in straw poll

Ah, yes, that's what I was referring. I just thought you meant something else.
Well, I wouldn't say Carter was in The Top Ten Presidents, since you brought it up. :giggle:

Seriously, I was on active duty in the Navy when Carter was President, and we in the Navy were greatly disappointed in the former Naval officer letting us down.

... Once, I heard a rumor that he almost pressed a red button to release a nuclear against Russia. That would have started a WWWIII....
I think you have that confused with the red Staples Easy button.

There is no one red button on the President's desk that can release a nuclear attack.

Interesting response. Why is President Carter considered one of the worst presidents? I have heard several arguments over this, but I cannot say that they were very convincing. Especially the one about Shah.

I've heard the arguments as well, and they are contradictory to my way of thinking and the criteria I use.

Reba, you're missing my point! I don't care that RR wore a HA, I do care that he used it avoid answering questions from reporters, and now that his son came out and said his dad had Alzheimer when running for his second term I can't help but think RR did not know the answers because he had Alzheimer!

But you never would have considered that before his Alzheimer's was announced. You are basing your opinion on something just because you have knowledge of it now. That is not the way to reach a proper conclusion.

Chances are, his Alzheimer's had little to do with his Presidency. It occurs on a continuum, and someone can have it for years with minimal to no symptoms or limitations on their functioning.

Since you used to serve in the Navy, can you please tell me how he let you down?

I'm just curious.

Instead of strengthening the military, he weakened it. He bungled the Iranian hostage crisis. He declared amnesty to draft dodgers. He was soft on the Soviets. He canceled military pay raises. For the Navy specifically, he cut back on ship building.

We expected a former Naval officer to have a better grip on military matters and foreign policy. He always seemed wishy-washy and lacking in confidence; not good leadership material.

Since I became an expert on Alzheimer's during the last 5 years. let me tell everyone how it worked in my family. There were almost no signs at first, but as time went by, there were a few, then more, then lots more. Imagine rolling a small snowball down a large hill. At first, it barely moves and is tiny. Soon, it gets bigger and goes faster. Last, it is huge and smashes over everything in its' path.

My opinion on RR is that he was 99-100% capable mentally during his presidency. He had advisors and staff to check on him. A minor glitch would have been caught. It was not until years later when he began to exhibit the telltale signs.

Nancy, bless her heart. I know what she went through. When someone you knew for 54 years does not know you, it stings. That is what I went through with my mother. In fact, t was a year ago today, the last time I saw her. She did not know who I was. I could have been a nurse. I was her firstborn. She passed away one year ago this Thursday, but she was gone long before that day. :(

You know that for a fact? Interesting. :hmm: I always thought people wore HA to help them hear.

Apparently you believe that his son Ron (who wasn't seeing his father on a regular basis) knew more than any of RR's doctors or other family and staff members knew.

Yes I know this for a fact! I have seen this happen right on TV! It show RR being ask a question and he , said I can't hear you ! Then he walked away! People can still use their hearing as an excuse to get out answering a person! I am bet other people had done this ! I can't believe you said something so dumb!

You actually know for a fact that RR couldn't answer a question so he pretended that he didn't hear it?

I'm not dumb enough to believe that.

If you haven't noticed, all modern presidents have times that they don't answer all the questions, for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they don't hear them, sometimes, they don't have time, sometimes it's no one's business (about personal matters), sometimes it's inappropriate for the setting, and sometimes, yes, they don't know the answer.

Ha ha. You are probably right. Maybe, he used the red telephone to give the red codes.

I agreed with you that Carter had a soft heart. I don't blame him, but he was totally embarrassed that our military helicopter and air force were crashed in Iran during his term. They planned to rescue the American hostages there, but they failed it because of the terrible accident. It costed him too greatly. He was not his favor to deal with the military. I am not exact sure what his commanders do that failed to convince him at that time. It seemed that there were no back up for the plan and financial.

It was an old rumor that RR gave Carter one million dollars or more to let him to win the election so Carter accepted it.

Sorry, there is no red phone either except in the movies. :giggle:

I've never heard that rumor before. It doesn't make any sense.
