Whoa... this is weird.

I wonder what these would taste like if we actually ate them. If we did, would our poop glow in the dark? :Ohno:

Like a black light poster come to life, a group of bioluminescent fungi collected from Ribeira Valley Tourist State Park near São Paulo, Brazil, emanates a soft green glow when the lights go out.

The mushrooms are part of the genus Mycena, a group that includes about 500 species worldwide. Of these only 33 are known to be bioluminescent—capable of producing light through a chemical reaction.

Since 2002 Cassius Stevani, professor of chemistry at the University of São Paulo; Dennis Desjardin, professor of mycology at San Francisco State University in California; and Marina Capelari of Brazil's Institute of Botany have discovered ten more bioluminescent fungi species—four of which are new to science—in Brazil's tropical forests.

The work, Stevani says, has increased the number of glowers known since the 1970s by 30 percent.

Wow! I never thought such mushrooms could glow. Must be some alien mushrooms lol. Cool

Maybe I could use some to glow myself in the night. :D

when People eat mushroom and I would can see their stomach become glow at night time lol :lol:
 
Dude, if the mushrooms can glow in the dark, I don't think I'd want to eat them.
And if any jungle animal stumbles upon those same mushrooms, they'd probably back off too. Instinct survival?
 
maybe they're radioactive and they grew up near a nuclear plant. ;)

I always see glowing mushrooms in videogames. I've seen glowing bugs in reality, glowing cat piss, glowing paint, glowing fish and pretty much any other glow in the dark thing but this beats all~!

Awesome, totally awesome :D! Skeptic- Some scientests believe that there's 100 new species born every year from cross breeding, darwinism and various other things plus theres alot of unexplored areas in south america, africa and yeah... This is hearsay btw so don't take my word for it.

It's NOT fake, there is 4 or 5 pages of article and the source is FROM National Geographic online on that link. How come there are glowing bugs, sea animals, etc...they use the similar chemistry that makes it glow.
