I just want your feedback about hire the neighbor's son wants to work lawnmower my yard.

Today I was lawnmower on nearly two acres. I knew my neighbor Daddy and son came to my property. They inquired me if I want a hire person to do lawnmower. I told them that we will be talking about this for when and how much cost, etc. this week ......

I talked to my boyfriend and warned me Don't do that because If son gets to injure from my property. They can sue me and my home property! I still do not understand why they came and asking job for his son earn money! I told my bf that they will be coming my house for more talking, and maybe I will write the contract or agreement paper that I am not responsible for his son will injure? My bf advice I that hire pro landscaper?

Yeah, professionals have business insurance to protect their selves. People who don't and happen to get hurt will prefer to find funding to cover the expenses that doesn't come out of their pockets.

BTW it is usually cheaper to buy a tractor (ones you see in home depot, not like walkers) and drive one or two days on the 2 acre to mow it down. I used to do that, and it took about 6 hours to clear 2 acres.

I have John Deere Tractor with 56 wide, but it's broken down! so I am waiting for my pal come and fixing it! :|

BTW...I am so grateful that I have a horse Rosie because I have three acres but one of the acres that she takes care and grazes at it all! :giggle:

I guess I will tell them that I am rejecting their offer..:sadwave:

Yeah, just politely tell them that you don't want to take the risk of the boy getting hurt. 2 acres is a lot and the chances of getting injured are much higher than for a 50 X 50 spot of grass at the front yard.

sigh..... whatever happened to good ole' day? :(

Sometimes it is better for relatives to hire young teens than a stranger. It's ok to tell them no, and hire your close relative instead. But sure you have a good home insurance because it can help if your relative got hurt.

Maybe draw up a contract between you and the boy preventing a lawsuit from him?

Give the rest of lawn to Rosie!

My father have 2/3 acres of land in austria and it's steep hill!! (they live near mountians) my father rents 2 out to farmer for his horses during spring/summer/autmun season for grazing and mows the rest himself, it takes him 8-9 hours to mow 1 acre!!!

Homeowners insurance covers people who aren't being paid to do work on the property.

You can't write a contract that excludes you from liability.

If a person is working on your property for hire (money), then the worker should carry his own liability insurance. Otherwise, if he gets hurt, you will have to pay out of your pocket, and your insurance won't cover it.

I don't know if this count because I don't think they are paying taxes (homeless people don't pay taxes for washing car windows either)

If what doesn't count?

That is correct. Do not be shy about asking for proof of the hired worker(s)'s insurance. You would be amazed at how many claim to have it when they don't.

Goats do wonder work. ;) We borrowed neighbor's goats to do yard clean up. Yeah I understand about what others saying. Also it is risk to have friends' or neighborhood children to come and playing in our yard. Accident can happen. It is your own risk but it is nice to have someone young to do yard work and teach them to have a responsible. Nowday teens get in trouble for doing nothing. oh well.

If what doesn't count?

If a minor teen boy who doesn't pay taxes count as a reason why home insurance don't have to cover him. They have no proof that he is in a business for himself.

Taxes don't matter. When a homeowner hires (pays) someone to do work on their property, it's the responsibility of the worker to pay taxes and get insurance. It's not the homeowner's responsibility. However, it is the homeowner's responsibility to make sure that the worker does have coverage, or else be willing to pay for any damages or injuries out of his own (the homeowner's) pocket. You can be sure that the insurance company will ask why the boy was on your property and got hurt while mowing the grass.
