Florida will soon become the first state in the nation with more than one million concealed weapons permits, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Currently about 950,000 Floridians have active concealed weapons permits.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who operates the gun permit program, said his office is issuing between 10,000 and 15,000 permits every month.

At that rate, Florida would pass the million permit mark before the end of the year.

Putnam said Florida has seen increasing demand for gun permits.

He hired more workers to handle the extra workload and expanded the state's Fast Track system, which allows gun owners to make appointments and renew their weapons permits faster.

Putnam does not think it's too easy to get a gun permit in Florida.

"Florida has a strong tradition in upholding Second Amendment rights. The

Florida Legislature has been very clear about that. The track record of administering the program in our office and when it was in the Department of State has been one that is thorough and efficient," Putnam said.

Putnam also said Florida's concealed weapons permit holders are overwhelmingly law-abiding citizens.

About 6,200 gun permits have been revoked out of 2.2 million issued since 1987.

Records show 168 permits were revoked for gun-related crimes.

Permit holders can lose their gun licenses if convicted of a felony.

Yeah, I agree that they should lose their license to carry weapon if convicted of a crime.
 
For me it's kind of scary, but I can see the need. I can also see where it's not too intelligent. In my house, there are no guns.
 
I believe that Texas has over million CC permits.
 
ah.... the only logical explanation for this sudden rise in # of permits is because they fear Florida will impose a stricter regulation.
 
I think it's on the rise all over the country and especially in Colorado! It's a good thing in my opinion!
 
It still is a pretty paranoid trend, once used, you still need to convince a prosecution it was self-defense. It won't be easy owning a gun, especially for those with inexperience, whose aim accuracy won't guarantee stopping an assault. Even over-firing a weapon will get you in a legal mess...

There are no issue in IL/DC and some areas over states.

It is extremely difficult to get CCW permit in LA County but you probably get some luck with San Bernardino County.

I do know some people bring guns illegally in LA County and they ended up got arrested.
