Ok I lives up north in NH. Now I have 10, 20 and (2) 1/2 gallons of tank. 10 gallons have 3 different kind of sharks in my son's bedroom. 20 gallons have guppies and catsfishes. (2) 1/2 gallon have male betta. The betta tank dont have the filter, air pump or therometer. Just the water and gravel and betta. My other tanks have filter, air pump and therometer.

Now. In the winter time and lost my power in the house. So the house will be cold. How the heck can you keep the tanks warm without having them die. I have lost about 6 fishes so far.

Yes I am sad and yes it is hard. I just became a fish person since Sept with just male bettas. But it increase to 10 and 20 gallons by Dec.

So how do you keep the water stay warm without having them go into shock and die?

(knocks on wood)

me too.. I wonder the same.. since we had those "feeder fishes" for almost more than 2 years.. we were shock.. they are not feeder fishes.. they are kois and 2 fancy fin goldies.. they are huge.. they were cramp in 10 gal tank.. till last month finally we bought 30 gal H.. they are happy..
but after I read yours... eek.. we live in Minnesota.. and coldest weather .. but power go out.. :Ohno:...
probably have to net them in bucket and go over friend's place who have power.. and for while?

It would be a little tricky with tropical freshwater fish, but much easier with coldwater freshwater golfish family, they can stand between 46 to 68 degrees F. You could get a generator if power goes out, that way u won't have to worry about the heater losing power, tho if power goes out rarely then it's not worth the money. :)
It's good to save some goldfish from ending up in other animals mouth. Plain Comet goldfish are feeder fish, if u take good care of them they will grow pretty big, up to 12-14 inches long. :) My brother has some huge comet goldfish, they're 6 years old and still going on. They are in a 30 gallon tank. :)

They aren't real sharks. They look like sharks, so they're called them that way. Bola Sharks are one of them, they will grow big and need LOT of room to swim around, they are very swift swimmers. They can grow up to 12 inches long.

Goldfish is the best first fish for kids to learn responsibilty. Goldfish doesn't require heater, but needs proper cleaning and right water chemistry. Goldfish also need lot of room when they get big. :)
