Hasan's trial is unusual and very political. Most trials are started somewhere between 6 months and one year. Sometimes two. Keeping a prisoner costs $$$$$$. Speedy trials are necessary to keep costs down and the rights of the accused intact. That is done usually through a plea bargain (just like in civilian courts).

President Obama wants his time in office to look like he has the lowest percentage of terrorist incidents. That is why the 'work place violence'. Boston bombing and the follow on coverage hurt that.

I was reading a Wall Street Journal article ( http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323420604578649830782219440.html ) today about the Boston Bomber. Apparently, they are trying to claim that he was an anti-US conspiracy theorist, and not an Islamic Jihadist.

I recall reading a comment (I saved the comment somewhere) on 4chan before the suspects were named, chased and then one captured. The comment was posted about 3 days before the suspects were identified. The commenter claimed he worked as a DoD security contractor and that this was an exercise to clamp down even more on gun rights. He claimed that magazines about firearms would be found in the suspects home, alongside an NRA 'Bible". He also claimed that the paraphernalia would be made public, and the suspect would be made to appear to be a gun nut "patriot". He never claimed the bombing was staged, just that the information about the suspect would be.

I didn't forget. The baby was included in the mom's story. The baby didn't yet have a name or story or picture, and that was the way the linked story was presented.

I would also include Staff Sgt. Josh Berry who committed suicide after being wounded. That would be 15 lives snuffed out.

I will post a listing of the wounded if I can find a complete one.

I see. It was the story who said "13 people" and not 14. And you're correct about the damage afterwards that can cause people to commit suicide. :(

The trial is interesting because Hasan will be directly crossing witnesses. If you look on the net, you can find twitter feeds directly from the trial.

I think Hasan's whole goal is to further the jhad through the news rather than get himself found not guilty. It will be interesting to see how the judge controls this trial as I'm sure he does not know the rules of court as well as a lawyer. And, each judge treats his/her court differently.

I think that's obvious through his decision to represent himself. Such a bad idea if you really want a fair trial.

I remembered when I took a course in Law in college, something my professor said stayed with me, "A person that serves as their own lawyer, has a fool for a client."

Hasan is banking on the fact that he'd get the death penalty making him a martyr by ensuring that he is able to present evidence that he is the shooter and that he planned the shooting rampage. He wants the death penalty.

What about torture Hasan to death? I support that idea.

Death penalty under cruel and inhumane.

We wouldn't hear anything about vivisection if they tested new drugs on convicted rapists, terrorists, and child molesters.

Maybe he was hoping if he was his own lawyer he would have a better chance of being found guilty and get the death sentence and become a
martyr .
