Finally!! The day of my trip!

You forgot to say if you still had dry feet when you got on the train. And what did you finally do in an effort to stay dry?

Dry feet= fail. I stepped in some deep water near the Metra station, but right now my shoes ARE drying off nicely, although mind you-- my parents are probably gonna want clothespins for their noses. As for what I tried, the plastic bag trick was pretty good, and for the most part, did what it was supposed to do, until I stepped in ankle high water.

Check Crocs website. They have some good sale boots, and I think free shipping right now.

If staying dry is the main goal, what about Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. as a source of used ones?

There's a Salvation Army not far from where I live. Anyways... I'm in Homewood, and trying to snap holiday lights.

Now we're talking. Plastic bags on my feet? Funny you should mention that, cause I had to peel off extremely wet socks, and I just may try that idea. THANKS!

Just make sure the bags are Wonder Bread bags!!

Maybe this will inspire your parents to give you a pair of boots for Christmas. :)

One could print out this thread, highlight Reba's post, and accidentally leave it sitting somewhere...

Sometimes I'd rather ask a person (or have someone ask me) instead of getting everything from the internet. Kind of like in the old days when we used to have conversations:

"Hey, I wonder if anyone ever tried to..."

"Oh yeah, that would be interersting. Maybe..."

Etc.

These days, you say the first line and someone says

"Oh yeah. I just googled that on my smart phone. They tried it and it didn't work."

Another potentially lovely interaction, dead on arrival.

sigh.

(of course, technically we *are* on the internet now, but you know what I mean.)

Yeah, I do. The good old days before smartphones were good days. Nowadays, we can just about find anything we want on those smartphones.

Maybe. There are a lot of us that have caved in to getting one of these but not getting full use of them. In my mind right now is a mental image of me with a nice wooden baseball bat and someone slow pitching smart phones to me as I connect with might thwacks!! launching those smashed and broken technological masterpieces out across the field.
