Fellow GI is person of interest in pregnant soldier's death - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Authorities have identified a soldier in training as a person of interest in the death of a pregnant soldier who was found in a hotel, a military official said.

Authorities discovered the body of Spc. Megan Lynn Touma, 23, who was seven months pregnant, in a motel in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on June 21.

Lt. Col. John Clearwater said Saturday that authorities are investigating a soldier in training at nearby Fort Bragg as person of interest in the case.

Fayetteville police found Touma's body when they responded to a call of strong odor coming from one of the motel rooms.

Touma, a dental specialist from Cold Springs, Kentucky, arrived at Fort Bragg on June 12.

In five years with the Army, Touma had served with the U.S. Army Dental Activity Clinic in Bamberg, Germany, and in Fort Drum, New York, before her assignment to Fort Bragg

Charleston, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston resident and ex-husband of the soldier who was found dead earlier this week at a Fayetteville motel still can't believe she is gone.

After a three-year marriage, El Sayed Touma divorced Spc. Megan Lynn Touma in 2007, but the couple remained friends.

"I couldn't believe that was the Megan that I know, the Megan that I was married to for three years. It was devastating for all of us," said Touma who found out the news from Megan's father.

Touma, an Army sergeant and Iraqi War Veteran, met Megan in New York when they were both enlisted. Touma currently works as a corrections officer at the Charleston County Jail.

"It was love at first sight. I still love her. I still love her," Touma said. "She was a great person. She was lively. She was full of joy. She a great smile and I'd hate to see her go."

...Touma said, "She was left in the room for 2 days and the Army said she was AWOL. They didn't even bother go to check on her."

...Col. John W. Etzenbach, her former commander in Germany, said she was "lighthearted'' and had a good sense of humor. Etzenbach says the woman "ecstatic'' about becoming a mom.

"I'm still in disbelief. I'm shocked. I cannot believe that she's gone. I'm having a hard time dealing with that right now," Touma said.

Although he is not the father of Megan's baby, Touma said Megan wanted to name her baby after him.

Touma has not been contacted by police, but said he is willing to help them in any way he can....
