what is your favorite Gospel song?

I like this new Gospel written by Mariah Carey...

MARIAH CAREY - Fly Like A Bird :dj:
Album: The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005)

Somehow I know that
There's a place up above
With no more hurt and struggling
Free of all atrocities and suffering
Because I feel the unconditional love
From one who cares enough for me
To erase all my burdens
And let me be free to

[Chorus:]
Fly like a bird
Take to the sky
I need you now Lord
Carry me high
Don't let the world break me tonight
I need the strength of you by my side
Sometimes this life can be so cold
I pray you'll come and carry me home

Can we recover
Will the world ever be
A place of peace and harmony
With no war and with no brutality
If we loved each other
We would find victory
But in this harsh reality
Sometimes I'm so despondant
That I feel the need to

[Chorus:]
Fly like a bird
Take to the sky
I need You now Lord
Carry me high
Don't let the world break me tonight
I need the strength of You by my side
Sometimes this life can be so cold
I pray You'll come and carry me home

Keep your head to the sky
With God's love you'll survive

Fly like a bird
Take to the sky
I need you now Lord
Carry me high
Don't let the world break me tonight
I need the strength of You by my side

Sometimes this life can be so cold
I pray You'll come and carry me home
Carry me higher, higher, higher
Carry me higher, higher, higher
Carry me home
Higher Jesus
Carry me higher Lord

I like the song "Because He Lives" sung by Christian artist Charles Billingsley....it's a traditional Gospel song but he made it sound like the 1950s. :) I did that song in sign language during a family gathering and everyone liked it a lot. :)

Not Quite Gospel...

But Five Iron Frenzy has several songs that are just purely amazing, inspirational, and uplifting. Here's a couple

On Distant Shores:
I have been scarred so deep by life and cold despair,
and brittle bones were broken far beyond repair.
I have leveled lies so deep, the truth may never find.
And inside my faithless heart, I stole things never mine.

If mercy falls upon the broken and poor, Dear Father,
I will see you, there on distant shores.

I have toiled for countless years, and ever felt the cost,
and I've been burned by this world's cold,
like leaves beneath the frost.
On my knees I've crawled to you, bleeding myself dry,
But the price of life is more, then I could ever buy.

If mercy falls upon the broken and poor, Dear Father,
I will see you, there on distant shores.

And off of the blocks, I was headstrong and proud,
at the front of the line for the card-carring, highbrowed.
With both eyes fastened tight, yet unscarred from the fight.
Running at full tilt, my sword pulled from it's hilt.
Its funny how these things can slip away, our frail deeds,
the last will wave good-bye. Its funny how the hope will bleed
away,
the citadels we build and fortify. Good-bye.
Night came and I broke my stride, I swallowed hard, but never
cried.
When grace was easy to forget, I'd denounce the hypocrites,
casting first stones, killing my own. You would unscale my blind
eyes,
and I stood battered, but more wise, fighting to accelerate,
shaking free from crippling weight. With resilience surpassed,
I clawed my way to you at last. And on my knees,
I wept at your feet, I finally believed, that you still loved
me.

Healing hands of God's mercy on our unclean souls once again,
Jesus Christ, Light of the world, burning bright
within our hearts forever. Freedom means love without condition

without beginning or an end. Here's my heart let it be forever
yours.
only you can make every new day seem so new.

Dandelions
in a field of yellow flowers
underneath the sun
bluest eyes that spark with lightning
boy with shoes undone
he is young, so full of hope
reveling in tiny dreams
filling up his arms with flowers
right for giving any queen
running to her,beaming bright
while cradling his prize
a flickering of yellow light
within his mother's eyes
she holds them to her heart
keeping them where they'll be safe
clasped within her very marrow
dandilions in a vase

she sees love where anyone else would see weeds
all hope is found, here is everything he needs

fathomless Your endless mercy
weight i could not lift
where do i fit in this puzzle?
what good are these gifts?
not a martyr or a saint
scarcley can i struggle through
all that i have ever wanted
was to give my best to You

Lord search my heart
create in me something clean
...dandelions...
You see flowers in these weeds

gently lifting hands to heaven
softened by the sweetist hush
a Father sings over His children
loving them so very much
more than words could warrant
deeper than the darkest blue
more than sacrafice could merit
Lord, i give my heart to you

Lord search my heart
create in me something clean
...dandelions...
You see flowers in these weeds

A New Hope
Amy's going back to school today,
elation, jubilation streams from her face.
Did the halls smell of gunpowder still?
What made the human mind dark enough to kill?

A new hope,
where is your freedom?
A new hope,
cast off your burdens.

A darker world lies behind this one.
Cryptic it hides beneath perception.
We all saw it on that day,
stunned we stood stuttering.
What did the news say?

A new hope,
where is your freedom?
A new hope,
cast off your burdens.
A new hope,
where is your freedom?
A new hope,
here is your freedom.

Peace
fills us
by hope we steer
our dark hearts salvaged.
We live without fear...

More Five Iron Frenzy

Here are two more powerful songs that I can't exclude.

Eulogy (this is more of a darker song)
Today
all the sources would agree
that the day of their death was a cold dark day
Scuttled
ships have blocked the sea
and the pallid light of morning melts into an ashy gray

And goodbye to everything
sayonara everyone
they are tired
write the eulogy

No one
understood a word they said
hailed them all as kings up upon a pedestal
Their names
scribbled on a parchment piece
would sink like any ship listing fast from ruptured hull

And goodbye to everything
sayonara everyone
they are tired
write the eulogy
And I saw them as they passed
it was like a millstone cast
far into the deep blue sea

The murky sea is black
dismal and so deep
millstones rocket through the dark
into it?s icy keep
A resting place for broken ships
a cemetery for the humble
no one?s here to make you stumble

If Jesus Christ is true
then I am mostly lies
if Jesus Christ is Love
then I have failed to try
if Jesus Christ is Life
then please just let me die
let...this...die...

And goodbye to everything
sayonara everyone
they are tired
write the eulogy
And I saw them as they passed
it was like a millstone cast
far into the deep blue sea

goodbye, sayonara
they are tired
write the eulogy

Every New Day (this is the first song that every truly inspired me)
When I was young, the smallest trick of light,
Could catch my eye,
Then life was new and every new day,
I thought that I could fly.
I believed in what I hoped for,
And I hoped for things unseen,
I had wings and dreams could soar,
I just don't feel like flying anymore.
When the stars threw down their spears,
Watered Heaven with their tears,
Before words were spoken,
Before eternity.
Dear Father, I need you,
Your strength my heart to mend.
I want to fly higher,
Every new day again.
When I was small, the furthest I could reach,
Was not so high,
Then I thought the world was so much smaller,
Feeling that I could fly.
Through distant deeps and skies,
Behind infinity,
Below the face of Heaven,
He stoops to create me.
Dear Father, I need you,
Your strength my heart to mend.
I want to fly higher,
Every new day again.
Man versus himself.
Man versus machine.
Man versus the world.
Mankind versus me.
The struggles go on,
The wisdom I lack,
The burdens keep pilling
Up on my back.
So hard to breathe,
To take the next step.
The mountain is high,
I wait in the depths.
Yearning for grace,
And hoping for peace.
Dear God...
Increase.
Healing hands of God have mercy on our unclean souls once again.
Jesus Christ, light of the world burning bright within our
hearts
forever.
Freedom means love without condition, without a beginning or an
end.
Here's my heart, let it be forever Your's,
Only You can make every new day seem so new.

"Jesus Loves Me"

This was probably the very first song I ever learned as a child and it's will be the first song I teach my child. Have you tried to sign that song.. beautiful!

Jesus Loves The Little Children....

Jesus loves the little children.
All the children of the world.
Red, and yellow, and blue, and green.
Weirdest children I've ever seen.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Which song did you get that from, cental?

The link I've provided is too striking similar to the quote you've provided only the verses are different and politically correct.

I prefer Gospel songs that really are about the Gospel--the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I have several "favorites"--here is one:

AMAZING GRACE

1 Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
was blind, but now I see.

2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed.

3 The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be,
as long as life endures.

4 Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

5 When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we first begun.

Are you accusing me of plagarism!?

 Eek!! I was thinking of one thing and you're thinking of another. I was wondering where did you get the quote..

Jesus loves the little children.
All the children of the world.
Red, and yellow, and blue, and green.
Weirdest children I've ever seen.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

"Weirdest children?"

Here's the link to the lyrics of "Because He Lives"

HE LIVES

1 I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near.

Refrain
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

2 In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And tho' my heart grows weary I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.

3 Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing,
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.

"Blessed Assurance" by Fanny J. Crosby is my favorite and I have sung this song for a recital one time. There is no one that is even close that can write songs better than Miss Crosby, as she has written thousands. http://www.wholesomewords.org/biography/bcrosby5.html

Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain

i dont know any Gospels, but i do like this song called Live This Life by Big&Rich

Live This Life
Met a man on the street last night
Said his name was Jesus
Met a man on the street last night
Thought he was crazy till I watched him heal a blind man
Watched him heal a blind man now I see

I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk yes I will walk
With patience through that open door
I have no fears, angels follow me wherever I may go
I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore

Met a girl in a chair with wheels
But no one else would see her
Met a girl in a chair with wheels
Everyone was so afraid
To even look down on her
And she just spread her little wings and flew away yeah

I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk yes I will walk
With patience through that open door
I have no fears, angels follow me wherever I may go
I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore

Met a kid on a bridge last night
Contemplating freedom
Met a kid on a bridge last night
And he said
I'm tired of this maddening life
And I'm ready to go meet Jesus
And I said he's a friend of mine
Met him just last night
And it's alright
Yeah it's all right
Yeah

I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Then I will walk yes I will walk
With patience through that open door
I have no fears, angels follow me wherever I may go
I live this life until this life won't let me live here anymore
Live here anymore

Met a man on the street last night
Said his name was Jesus
Met a man on the street last night

Yes, she was definitely the "Queen" of hymn writing. :) Her life was also a testimony of Christian spirit in the way she turned her "disability" of blindness into a blessing that she shared with millions of people for generations. She didn't have physical sight but she truly had "insight."

If I may say this...she is one of few women that receive recognition, which is very unfortunate. Some women, I've heard, have had to use a man's name in order to be recognized. Sometimes, it's still like that, especially with some of the backward countries in the Middle East.

My few favorite Gospel Songs are "The Old Rugged Cross", "Victory in Jesus", "Because He Lives", "Amazing Grace", and "Lean on Jesus". I like old Hymns like Fanny J. Crosby comproser. :) The Gospel Songs calm and comfort my heart and make my heart rejoice.

I like the gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, she made me cry when she was singing.
