I have question about EyeTV Hybrid.

Does EyeTV Hybrid support CC?

Does EyeTV Hybrid will work with analog cable? (Just regular cable)

yes, it show both on ATSC and NTSC - both show CC.
thought I post somewhere to mention that.

1) the EyeTV software does support CC but you lose CC if you export the recorded video to other format.

2) yes ASTC and NTSC (digital and analog) current EyeTV Hybird and EyeTV 250 Plus that was released after MacWorld Expo now support Digital Cable QAM (it has to be Clear QAM) but can't use Digital Cable box so that means the cable has to be connected directly from outlet to EyeTV hardware. Although you can use cable box by using the A/V input and the format will be in SD only so no HD.

both support Analog Antenna NTSC, Analog Cable NTSC, Digital Antenna ATSC, Digital CAble QAM.

EyeTV Hybird does not have hardware encoding and EyeTV 250 Plus has hardware encoding support. That means Hybird require faster mac to do software encoding.

Go to Compare hardware
and choose Hybird and 250 Plus to compare.

I own EyeTV 250 Plus pre 2008 meaning I can't use it get clear QAM channels but that's okay because I plan to buy later this year a HD HomeRun for that purpose (it has dual tuner so I can use both OTA and digital cable and to watch while recording other channel) Overview HDHomeRun or Silicondust

Hello Boult...

Thanks so much for explaining about compare with Hybrid and 250 Plus and answering couple of my questions.

Now, I'm pick 250 Plus because I don't like to use too much processor, just love to let processor to be more idle and less to producing more heat in CPU, MBP is getting more hotter when use processor so much, same with processor intensive programs but I was purchased cooling pad to keep MBP so cooler or warm instead of getting hotter.

I need tv tuner for college in next fall 2008 to watch some tv shows since their dorm use analog cable, I'm currently use Directv right now and receiver should work with 250 Plus via composite cable or S-Video.

That's awesome about support CC.

few people on forums been told that you can export eyetv that already record and burn to DVD with Toast 7.0 only, not 8.0.

So, I will order when I can. Found only at ebay or somewhere, not at official Roxies' website.

current shipment of EyeTV hardware comes with CD that include Toast Basic which you can use to export. (it is a version 8) hmm

see feature page; Features 250 Plus scroll a little down and see on right side...

Check out 3.0.2 UPDATE exporting recorded shows with CC now available!!!

Closed Captions Support in QuickTime Format Exports (North America only)

EyeTV now supports the exporting of ATSC/NTSC Closed Captions for use on
iPhone, iPod, and Apple TV. The Closed Captions are also supported for
playback in QuickTime and iTunes.

When an ATSC/NTSC EyeTV recording with Closed Captions is exported from
within EyeTV, EyeTV automatically creates a Closed Captions text track. The
Closed Captions will be played back on the iPhone, iPod and Apple TV if
Closed Captions have been enabled on the device. Turn on "Show Closed
Captioning" in QuickTime Player, or the appropriate "Show Closed Captions
When Available" preference on the iPod/iPhone/Apple TV or in iTunes.

EyeTV will export the last Closed Caption track used in EyeTV. For example,
if CC3 captions are used, they will be converted to CC1 captions upon
export. Only one Closed Captions track is supported.

It is recommended to have the latest software and firmware updates for
QuickTime, iTunes, iPhone, iPod and Apple TV as older versions did not
support Closed Captions.

Since there is Toast 9.0
I have to find out if that work as DVD player.

I tried Toast 8.0 and it didn't work. It's at least, I got refund. :)
