Most states will tolerate up to 50cc before you have to go through the licensing hoops... Again check the laws where you live.

If you really want to save $ on gas, best is to get real bike, they last much longer than scooters and you could be hitting 70 MPG depending on which motorcycles. My goldwing I can hit 50mpg if I go slow like 50mph all the time, but generally get 42mph cause I tend to cruise around 80mph.
If still afraid of motorcycles, then opt for smallest Honda, they have been known to have the highest MPG rating of all makes!
sr171soars said:I was wondering about durability of scooters. So, they don't last long? Like how long? What is the biggest problem? The engine or just wear and tear in general?
I have been thinking about ways to reduce gas consumption workwise...and I was thinking about scooters...![]()

There's a nice one that has 2 electric motors totalling 750 watts that has enough power to go up at a ... I forget how much percent grade carrying a 250 lb person max. It has brake regenerating power loss from the batteries if you go down hill or something. It's good for short trips like to the stores or schools. You won't worry about oil changes, pollution, etc from the gasoline engine.

diehardbiker65 said:Yea, BUT BUT, using electricity does NOT mean your reducing the pollution! Where do you think electrity comes from? Of course coal, oil, natural gas, etc. And they do pollute anyway! And you'd still be paying electricity to recharging the battery. I don't know the cost, but I believe still probably cheaper than gasoline anyway. I do not know how long it would last, and maintenace, I don't know exactly.

It usually depends on how you handle it and treat it. If you abuse it, turn too much... too hard, hit a lot of bumps, and don't get it tuned up as often as you should... it could go bad.sr171soars said:I was wondering about durability of scooters. It still reduces pollution because it does not emit pollution, it's zero emission vehicle. A gas scooter will emit pollution. I do know that electricity comes from generating stations. Not all electricity cause pollution. Electric operation is cheaper than gasoline, except for the expensive batteries.
No, it does not really redce the pollution because still you need electricity to recharge the batteries. These electricity has to be generated somehow, and mostly are by coal, and coal is far filthiest polluter than gasoline!!! You don't notice because the power plant is much of distant view anyway. It causes acid rain!, and about batteries, it does not have forever life, and it has to be disposed of... with dangerous chemicals, whadda think they are doing with it?
The concept of electric powered vehicle started back in 1890, over 115 years ago! It never made into mainstream for several factors.
How do you REALLY know that it is cheaper to run on electricity? Its very hard to gauge, wheather its cheaper or not.
Ummm...I've seen clips of them. What an interesting concept! Doesn't surprise me there are problems with them. Higher prices is another problem with any new product especially when there is no competition.
What I never could figure out is why anybody would want one as they don't go that fast. Plus, you would be standing the entire time too!
