We also used to have older cars that had odometers that didn't have enough spaces to record numbers over 100,000 miles. That is, if the odometer read 23,340 it meant the car had either 23,340 miles, 123,340 miles or 223,340 miles.

Thats analog for sure, mine is digital.

Analog or digital?
It was a 1973 Plymouth Scamp--analog. It had belonged to my grandmother before we bought it. She didn't miss the odometer or speedometer when she drove down those small town twisting Connecticut roads. :giggle:

Digital Odometer came in around middle of '90s There are no digital odometer in 80's or earlier.

"Heard"? Hmmm alright. I was not sure but suspect that it can be disconnected. Have to do hard research.

Okay, its not reliable source but it seems earlier than 09' then yes can be disconnected, 09' or later can't.

I heard someone removed OnStar then engine won't start.

I've read that digital odometer would show E (as in error) if it was tampered.

Some newer vehicles have mileage recorder in computer if the odometer is blanked or inoperative, mechanic use a factory scan tool to plug OBDII port to find exact mileage used.
