Well look at it this way... Hackers would know where you are ( at home or out and about ) with the gps, so they would know when to break into your house...ect...

Now look at the emissions, they finally realized its not working, that's why they are removing the rubber dickies off the fuel nozzels at the pumps.

Why should they removed rubber off from the fuel nozzels? It's nothing do with emission. It's static electricity issue.

Its in NYS law book AND Federal law book. Not just NYS, every state has that same law in the book. The charge falls either Federal or State is based on location of crime scene, if never crossed state line, then state prosecute the suspect, on other hand if a person altered odometer in a state and transport to another state and didn't declare that odometer has been altered then Federal prosecute the suspect.

It is still crime - no exception.

If you did so don't sell your car if you don't want get caught.

I will DISLIKE when I find any odometer is fraud when look for car.

Did you read the article? I know what you mean but did you read?

Yes, Do you understand how OnStar's system work? Once you tampering on digital odometer from 100k to 20k then OnStar's record history said 100k and not match with vehicle's odometer and OnStar would alert to dealership for check and probably report to police.

Hello? There is disclaimer in back of title, I have two checkbox one that I declare that the odometer is accurate, the other one I declare that the odometer has been tampered. I would put X on the one that I declared that the odometer has been tampered then I didn't break the law. Go ahead call cop and have fun, and make sure they bring here cup of coffee from starbucks.

Yes, and is it possible for anyone to disconnect onstar, eh?

That's not option in my state - you only have to declare that odometer is accurate - required by law, that it.

ssssshhhhhhhhh............

Chill will ya! your claim is not accurate.

Supposed I want to sell you my Jeep, I, by law must inform you that the odometer is not accurate, you and I have to sign that you acknowledge, and that I have informed you. This is how not to break the law. In rare cases, odometer can messed up. My case, I have valid reason otherwise I will not be able to pass the emission test. part of the emission somehow affect the odometer, beyond my control. So, I didn't break the law. END OF STORY.

Ok, good luck.

Odometer can used for tax purpose - personal property tax (that what Reba said) or something. Tampering with odometer isn't cool.

You better listen, Jiro has right advise for you.

No, his post is unnecessary.

I had an older car once with a broken odometer (which we eventually got fixed). We had to estimate the mileage on it, and that was accepted. As long as everyone was informed and accepted it, it was OK.

Not here in NYS. There is no mileage tax or "Property taxes" based on value of car. You need to remember, the cut off age of vehicle for mileage is 10 years. Beyond 10 years, it is harder to measure the actual value of car regardless of the mileage.

Oh I see - I found MVR-180 form and they said form isn't apply if it is 10 years old.

I think accurate odometer is important for American cars because they aren't last longer as Japanese car.

That is what Im trying to tell you. :)

My PM will explain how it happened. Like I said it was an accident.
