EARTH HOUR: Do you love starry skies? Would you like to help the environment? Tonight (March 29) at 8 p.m. local time, join millions of people around the world in turning off your lights for Earth Hour (Earth Hour US - Earth Hour 2008), an event created by the World Wildlife Fund. The best photos of urban skies during the event will be published on SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids.

What are you going to do at 8 pm? I will be outside looking at the sky and hope for a clear sky to look at. :) Do share your experiences with us and what this would impact our Environment.. Would it help or would it not? What you think of this?

Notice it said it will publish the photos of the urban skies spaceweather.com so keep an eye out on that. I cant wait to see that! :)

Is this a hint for me to take photos tonight? ;)

haha dixie.. well the forecast call for more rains.. so doubt we will have clear sky here tonight.. :(

but for others.. then they are in luck to see the sky ... less light pollution in sky which we are fighting against for a clear sky.. :( i can see Conway and Little Rock lights combined quite brighter in southern sky.. I wonder tonight it will be less?? thats remain to be seen...

but the purpose of this event is to turn your computer, tv, and appliances off to save energy and do something fun for a change...

There are millions activities to do.. if you are not sure.. look up on the website and it have many ideas... so check it out, ok. :)

I dont think theres ever an hour something isnt running around here. It would be strange to have an hour where all the TVs, Radios, and Computers were turned OFF.

I think this would be a good idea for nothing more than to teach my DD how the pioneers lived. Turn off the lights TV and computer and spend an hour reading a book, playing checkers, or making handshapes with the shadows.

We had a few weeks like that . . . it was called "life after a hurricane." Just add no running water to that list. :P

and not to forget.. candles!!! :) like the pioneers used... heheh..

I'd love to see skies full of stars if lot of people turn out the lights. ;) I have wished going back high in the mountains to gaze at stars which feels like going in the space.

haha i have tried that many times.. taking cold shower OUTSIDE.. yes outside!! it was in october! brr. faucet broke so we had no choice but tkae shower outside for like 2 weeks till my mom got money and replaced it.. thank goodness it worked again and we were able to take showers.. warm one.. ahh relieved.. hehe..

so it was a redneck thing to do.. but heck it was fun to do it as it was a daring thing i ever done in my life... yes i still do it sometimes but only during summer time LOL..

looking back at that.. we could have just got a BIG pot and boil it with cold water to make sure it is right temp then put in tub and soap yourself then rinse yourself? how dumb were we? hahaha.. oh well.. heh! :giggle:

showers outside? wouldnt the neighbors have said anything?

and dammit I messed around forgot! oh well I dont think it has cleared yet here anyhow. Pics will have to wait!

I wonder how much impact during 24 hrs (one hour each time zone all around). I don't see the darkness... only the awareness are still in the dark!

I'll be turning off all the lights tonight from 8 to 9 o'clock, but my girlfriend will think it's just another excuse to sit in the dark with nothing else to do but hug and other mushy stuff since we can't talk.

Thanks for the opportunity, Freaky Cat. You're not so freaky after all.
