Does anyone have "dry eyes"? (For those of you who don't know what "dry eyes" are, go here. )

I think part of mine was that my tear ducts were closed (the eye doctor comfirmed it when he checked it out since I was complaining my eyes were watering more than usual). He said I could have surgery if it gets too bad, but I don't want it since it isn't that bothersome. I am also a major computer user so that can do it too....plus some of the anti-glaucoma medications I used in the past made my eyes water. The one I am using now is working well with my eyes and doesnt make my eyes water too much.

I use those kind of sunglasses (Solar Sheild) that wraps around your glasses and have shields for the top and bottom of your eyes and glasses. This helps a lot with the wind to not blow in my eyes -- before, my eyes waters because of the wind.

I have one question -- I thought this was really odd -- why does my eyes water whenever my boss is around? LOL I like her, but it is embarrassing with tears coming out in front of her. I know I am not allergic to her!

What about you?

Yes, I have had very dry eyes for many years. That is why I could never wear contact lenses. Finally, I had laser surgery to correct my near-sighted vision. But I still have dry eyes (the two conditions are not related).

I have to use artificial tears several times a day because my eyes do not produce enough natural tears. I have had all four punctal ducts cauterized shut to prevent tear drainage. That means, what few tears I do produce stay on my eyeballs instead of draining down into my nasal cavity. The result is that if I get teary (like during a sad movie), I don't get "sniffles" because my tears don't effect my nose.

The cauterizing procedure was no fun. I had to be awake and keep my eyes open the whole time. The doctor put a thin super hot metal rod into each duct, one at a time. I could hear it sizzle, see the smoke, and smell the burning. Ugh!

A few years ago I participated in a research study for a new eye drop product. For one year I (and other people) used an experimental product by Allergan. We didn't know what it was at that time. We were the "guinea pigs", and some were the control subjects. Now, I have seen the product advertised on TV; it is Restasis. I know that is the product, even though they never told us, because one of the side effects that I kept reporting was the burning that happens for the first few minutes of use.

There is normally no "cure" for dry eye.

You are right, dry eye is worse if the wind blows, or there is too much AC.
