driverless cars

Does anybody read about driverless cars? To me, I feel like half independent and half dependent when it comes to riding a cab or a bus and despite having to live with cabs and buses, I didn't like it that much.

With driverless cars, I think it'd be great if I could type type on the address on where I want to go and the car will take me there! But there's the catch: I have to wait until sometime year 2020. That's a long time but I think it's worth it because since my goal is to be a videogame developer, I'd have lots of money to buy a "top-of-the-line" driverless vehicle!

To me, I"m a "get-in-the-car-and-go"-kind of person and I'm feeling myself a lot of pressure like "oh I wanna drive--i wanna drive--i wanna drive" and despite the pressure and visual impairement, I have to rely on my parent, cabs, and buses to get to where I'm going. When my mom got a 2007 Honda Pilot LX, I was looking at the fancy-looking steering wheel and felt like putting my hands on steering wheel and smiled. :)
 
Yea, might be an interesting and visual concept down the road...although, I much rather 'step it to the metal'. :D

Now if a hovercraft type of vehicle is making its way in a few years, that might altogether be a different kind of ride-- :naughty:

I was born blind and have never driven before, so the idea of a "driverless car" appeals to me. It would be *great* having the ability to get in a car and go wherever I wanted to on a whim. No more standing in the freezing cold, sleet and rain waiting for the bus! :)
 
I dont know how I would feel about being in a driverless car...it would be nice to relax and do whatever is needed during the commute but at the same time, if I want to pull over to stop for something, would that be possible?
 
Hmmm, sounds interesting but not too sure about their self defense in case of avoiding accidents or driving in rain or snow. I'd rather take the light rail, heavy rail or monorail instead.
 
I wouldnt TRUST a bunch of sensors, computers, whatever gizmos they can cram into a car to render the driver obsolete. Besides I feel more better taking control of the car with my own set of eyes and hands to guide the car along.

Plus what if the gizmos FAIL in the car? and the car goes outta control, there has to be a manual backup that can be deployed in case of failure.

GM has been messing with driverless cars for a long time starting with the Firebird experimental cars of the 1950's.

GM's still perfecting the driverless car concept, but Lexus just made a small step toward the goal of a driverless car with a device that would allow the Lexus LS-series cars to parallel-park by itself:
