I remember back in 2003, I got a Border book store gift card from my girlfriend at the time. It was my birthday gift. I decided that I wanted to use it. I invited her along. She was upset that I didn't want to share it with her. I didn't have to share it with her. I mean, it's silly to buy gift card. See, you have the gift card I got for you. Now buy something for me. That doesn't seem right.

Over the weekend, one of our friends gave me a gift card to a local ice cream place. I was happy to use it on my current girlfriend. See, someone got me a gift card. I'm happy to share with my girlfriend.

gift card, to me, it's thoughtless. Have to get something that you're really thoughtful, that show you're deep care for someone.

Yep I have always felt gift cards are the lazy way out of gift buying.. Fine for casual friends but not for significant others,, Now that you can buy on line and have it shipped anywhere its getting easier to buy gifts.

Ah, the old what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too deal. Been there seen that...

See my thread on Superbowl winnings as it is actually the reverse of this situation, but it has some of the same issues. (was I wrong to share it)

From Ghost Busters: Next time she asks you if you're a God, you say, YES!

Books are personal. She got it for you from a bookstore. She should not have been greedy.

Icecream, on the other hand, is definitely a sharing food. It was sweet of you to share with your now girlfriend.

I love, love, *love* bookstore gift cards! :P Even from my DH! Why? Because he hasn't a clue what I want to read next, that our library doesn't have. :giggle: I am like a kid in a candy store with a bookstore gift card. In fact, when people *ask* me what I might like, for BD, Christmas, etc., that's always my response. I don't want restaurant gift cards or dept. store gift cards or some gift I'll never use. Just gift cards to get books/movies. To me, that's personal if a person really knows me and wants to get me something I will definitely want and use.

As for sharing that gift card? H*ll, no! :laugh2: Share a restaurant gift card, etc., sure, like the ice cream gift card. Makes sense. But books? Nope, nope, nope! :P

I agree with others that the GF who gave you the gift card for the bookstore was out of step asking you to share it with her.

As to the ice cream gift card,
1) someone other than you GF gave it to you
2) the giver nor your GF asked/told you to share it with them
