Dogs and litterbox

it is not good idea to have a doggy litter in the house. if the dog pooped in the house, my god, it would smell up the whole house, if your friends came over and wondered if you actually have poop air freshener?!

dogs needs to be outside to do their business, they need exercise, walk, fresh air, grass, roll, sniff, terroritzes hydrants and trees....too many to list...

kitty litter is okay since cat know what they are doing and they cover their mess up even dogs wouldnt do it. they would kick their hind legs to scrap their feeties on grass, that's about it. grass is kinda their toilet paper.

one disadvantage if dogs go into your cat's litter and have those "kitty krunchies" gross gross!! :barf:

Don't you get tired of your dogs pooping all over the house?

Why not buy a big litterbox for dogs to poop in?

Can we train dogs to poop at that litterbox?

WELL AS USUAL FOR PUPPIES TRAINED IN NEWSPAPER KEEP TRAINED EM OUTSIDE BY LEASH NEVER HEAR OF DOGS IN LITTER ONLY WAY TAKE DOGS TO VET FOR FLEA BATH DIP IT HELP ALOT FOR INDOOR PETS :D

And dogs do eat their own poop too, I have seen my father's dog and my sister's dog does the same thing. How gross! :barf: I mean it smells so bad how can they eat it? ewww! So, think about it, If you want to get a litter box then there wouldn't be any more poop in there cuz the dog will be eating it. I can't say much anymore the more I think about it the more it making me burf here. :ugh2:

Well, it's pretty common for puppies to eat their well... feces. But for dogs, far less common due to the training. But some dogs just find the habit too difficult to kick.

If you want to stop seeing it happen again, feed them some pineapples in their dogfood, they will soon stop eating their faeces!!

Dogs using cat litter box?.... :ugh: You know how dogs digs up dirt when they're outside and if a dog was in a cat litter, I bet there wouldn't be any litter in the cat box since it will be all over the floor, sound like alot more cleaning to do too.... :giggle:

Puppies are more likely to have a few accidents in the house, but when a pet owner train their puppies to use their potty outside, then it wouldn't be hard to clean up the mess they leave behind on carpet or where ever... :)

Dogs using cat litter box?... :barf:

I rather have the dog outside for a walk and do their business then pick their business up from the street with tissue or newspaper to threw them into street rubbish bin.

True, I remember Miska, my mongrol dog who ate my young sister's poo when she was baby. :barf:

Exactly :laugh2: I never forget my Miska, dog during childhood. I remember from smell from her mouth when I want to cuddle Miska. :ugh2:

I do not against dogs and dont mind to accept dogs in my house but not for permanently. As you see that I'm cat person & also little pets person.

I have been dog owner all my life include cats, I have seen all kinds before, I would NEVER train my dogs to use litterbox. YOU think you seen dogs do it in litterbox?? YEAH RIGHT, UNLESS dog think they are cat.

IF that is case, I RATHER train my dog to use TOLIET instead of cat litter (I know it impossible) but it would be good laugh see dog do that. I would be more glad for dogs to use lawn because once dog poops into lawn like use it as fertizer. (better do it in backyard not frontyard as if you have one).

It's theoretically possible to train a dog to go to the bathroom in a litterbox, but why would you? It's also not good for the dog to let him/her mess in the house. We have two dogs, and they've been trained for years. Occasionally though, one of my dogs will have an accident in the house. However, it's usually my fault when that happens. I've gotten too busy to pay attention to him or something. When that happens, I'm the who pays the price for my neglect.

It's so much easier to just let the dog out, and let him do his business outside. If your dog is a puppy, he can be trained to do his business where he is supposed to, but it's UP TO YOU to do it. This sounds to me like a simple case of a lazy owner, and that's too bad.

I actually feel sorry for the dog. Whenever, my dogs have done something they weren't supposed to, they've always felt ashamed. There's nothing worse than a dog who feels bad when the fault lies on the part of the owner. :nono:

Just take the dog outside, MsP. You can at least do that much.

Geez.

Ewwww whats wrong with u Miss P?? do u have any dogs or cats?? I have had my cats in whole my life and I have trained my cats in cat litter but not dogs arghhh!!! geez take dog outside to do business to finish up. I used to have dogs when I was young and my parents let them outside to do their own business also I knew that the dogs sometimes did hump other dogs.

well I got sensitive skins... such as ecsema...
and my skins would rather be with dogs and cats that
have clean fur and never go outside.

But when dogs and cats go outside, they rolled in the grass....
and do all of that...

And come to me, and I be itching cause I don't know
what they were picking up out there outside....

Whatever they got while they were outside, I get skin rash.

I wish I can have a dog. :(

So, if you don't have a dog, what is the point of your thread?

I am planning on get one... to see if you guys think it is okay for me
to train it to poop in the litterbox.

then i suggest dont get a dog or cat for yourself if you think it too much troubles. IF you want one so bad then you have to do lot of jobs it take lot of responsiblies DO YOU THINK you have responsibilies to do that? if so here what you need to do is keep take pet to vet for check ups and treatments for fleas. If you want send dog outside after dog go outside take dog in and take bath immediately (wear gloves and long sleeve t shirt or sweater (i prefer t shirt because it can get wet easy) before you pick up dog and take bath) That way it wont effect your skins.

Very good idea/question !
NOTE: I think cat poop smell much worse
than dog poop...

what does eczema has to do with it? My oldest son has ecezma. We just recently lost our beloved lab at 7 months, my son was fine and his skin did not react to the dog.

My son will react more to outdoor cat than indoor for some reasons that outdoor cats carry more germs. I am allergic to outdoor cats but I am fine with indoor cats...I am also fine with indoor/outdoor dogs.

I was told by allergist drs that Outdoor cats are prone to carry more diseases...because they wander into places unknown to us.

I think you should re-think your plan to get an animal. If you're not willing to care for it properly, you shouldn't be getting one. Animals are a lot of work, and they deserve more than an owner who is looking to take the easy way out when caring for him/her.
