My condo association posted a note saying if people leave their laundry in a machine over night it will be throw away! Do you think the association has the rights to do this. The note said people can removed your laundry if it been in a machine more than 20 minutes after the machine stopped. How is a person going to long the machine stopped if they want to use. The only way you could know if you saw how must time was left on the machine, but if you didn't there is no way to know if was 20 minutes! I some time forget I have laundry
in a machine, I just hope I do leave it over night! I wish I was able to own small
house again!

Just get your clothes when it's done. Not hard. I used to have to go to laundromat for about 8 months straight. It was very, very annoying when people leaves clothes in dryer and I have no dryer to use! I had no where to put their clothes but floor... Yes, I did put their clothes on the floor to get dirty again - their fault.

Have some courtesy and grab your clothes when it is done washing or drying. It is not very hard to know when it is done. -_- Look at the knob if there is no digital timer.

Anyway, they do have the right because the washers and dryers belongs to them. You are just using it.

Yeah, even at my own house I keep an eye on the time so I finish all my laundry in one evening.

The washer and dryers do not belong to the condo they belong a company .
I did say I am forget that I am doing washing sometime, I set a timer to remind but this does not always help. I think the condo is going too far! The manger the condo it a real jerk!

It prolly will take just once; then I bet one'd be cured of that "forgetful" habit.

During the times in my life when I used public laundry facilities, I usually took a book with me and waited for my laundry. That way, I could pop the washed clothes into the dryer as soon as possible. Also, I didn't have to worry about keeping track of the time, or someone stealing or touching my stuff. It saved on running back and forth, too.

If they're left overnight, I think they do have the right. If you can't get your laundry done in one night, do what you can and save the rest for the next day. I also think the twenty-minute rule is reasonable as well. If someone has to do laundry, it's a discourtesy to use the washer/dryer as a place to store your clothes while you run long errands. Take a book or something. It'll keep people from screwing with your stuff, and you'll get it done fast.

I remmy the times I had to go to the laundrymat...was hell!...And I don't like washing my clothes in the same machine that other people use...Leaving ur clothes in the washing machine or the dryer is taboo....easily to get stolen, plus, other people are waiting to use the machines soon as yours are done....leaving the clothes over night? No way!

Putting ur clothes into the machine, and leaving is a sure way to get your clothes stolen....or someone getting mad that you have not removed them and they are waiting on the machine.....Be considerate of others....

There are also portable washers/dryers that you can hook up to your sink at home...have you thought of that? Would save a lot of $$ in the long run.

I think they have the right and I think its a good idea. I wish my apartments would do that. I hate when people leave their stuff in the machines and then nobody else can use it. Then people go on other floors and cause more problems.
Thats why when we move we are going to have the machines in our apartment, so we wont have to share anymore.
I know how long the machines run, they have a timer right on the machine, so you should plan accordingly.
I understand that sometimes you can forget about it, but I still think thats a good policy. Maybe people will be more careful now.

If you dont like the policy, you can always move out and go somewhere new.

If you set a timer how does that not help you get the clothes on time? As soon as that timer goes off, go get the clothes.

And Im sure the washer & dryer does belong to the condo people, either way, the machines are in their building and under their control, on their property.

Buy a washing machine and dryer combo and hook it up in your condo and call it a day.

I live in condo too, I am always prompt to remove my clothing....

I do not want some sick-O going through my underwear (YES HAS HAPPENED!)

and If you leave wet clothing to sit it becomes stinky and musky...ew!

Also its nice to remove so other people can use, otherwise its kinda rude that other people cant use because someone doesnt remove their stuff.

I don't see any problem with that. Looks like your condo had to resort to this drastic action because of people's stupidity and many people are complaining about it. Blame people, not condo association.

and it's simple - when you put your clothes in, wait. If you have trouble remembering it, well then you'll need to figure out a drastic method to remember it.

oh wait... the drastic method is them removing your clothes after laundry/dryer is done! hope you'll remember this time.

The condo association where we used to live had a policy at the door to the laundry room. They had security come by every ten minutes, if a washer or dryer was done and there was no one in the room, the clothes were removed and left at the guard gate for retrieval and a fee had to be paid. Sign was posted on the door and on each of the 4 walls. The notice was also in the rules that each owner/renter got each year.

We have had to rely on (at a different time) going to the laundromat for 2 solid years and never once left the property. Mainly due to the fact that it was laundry for 5 and easily took up to 3 double loaders and 2 top loaders each week and we lived about 24 miles from the laundromat.

Same here. I like to lean against the machine when I read. That way I don't have to glance at the machine to see if it was done. Just lose myself in the book.

why don't you just set a timer in your cellphone to buzz you? You must have a very intense focus! I can't even focus or anything if I'm sitting on or leaning against machine. I'd be :dizzy:

Then I guess you need a dependable timer, and set it for a few minutes early so that you get to the machine on time.

Do you always have a cellphone with you most of time?

I do not rent I own my condo and it is not a good time to be trying to sell. It is a buyer market and I would not get enough money to buy a place the same size I have now.
