No, not an idiot. A real living dummy, that is.

For example, I sell a lot of bikes to college students. I've found that they like to practice their negotiation skills with me. I'm aware that many of them go to school and hone their negotiation skills. They know that when they graduate school and go into the real world, they'll have to negotiate deals on their own. Yeah, negotiating with me helps them practice their skills for the future. Ok with me as long as I make sales and the deal I want. I don't mind if they use me to practice their negotiation skills. If I had firm price on everything, then they would not want to buy from me. They want the opportunity to practice their negotiation skills. I don't mind being a "dummy" for them as long as they buy from me.

Do you feel like a "dummy" sometimes? Give some examples.

I feel like a dummy sometimes, my wife punches me but I don't punch her back... Just sits there like a dummy...lol

That does not mean you are playing dumb, negotiating a trade has been going on since the beginning of human existence.

The question is: Do you really need to negotiate?

Do you think you won't see the bikes if you just put a price on them?

If you are going to negotiate, I would price them high then negotiate a fair price.

There is nothing dumb about it.

I'm wondering if there's confusion going on here in terms. At first I thought he was talking about a dummy like a crash test dummy haha, not a dumby like a stupid person. But after reading the post it sounds more like a guinea pig???? Someone to practice something on?

Like I saw a picture on facebook today. It was 4 frames, and it was of an elaborate "updo". But after looking for it for a second I realized I was also seeing sideburns.....that it was a dude in the picture with his hair all done up fancy, so I clicked on it. His other half is a stylist, or learning to be a stylist, and he has long hair....so he let them practice on him :) and take pictures and post them on the internet hahahahahaha

I don't really need to negotiate, but if I did not, then I risk being stuck with some hard to sell items forever. Not many people can have a successful business if they won't negotiate.

I should be putting a price on every one of them, but I don't have time to do everyone of them. I have a lot of bikes and so small amount of space.

I agree, nothing wrong with that. . The dumb thing to do is price them low in first place. :)

I've gone into electronic stores and told them I would buy a TV if they would throw in something else. :) They usually do..

There is the price and then there is THE price. If they really want to practice their negotiating skills they should go to the car lot. Do you have a back room where you go back to talk to the cat for a minute and come back shaking your head? I just checked I paid more for the bike than you are offering. You want my blood too?

You aren't fooling us we know you have a blast doing this!

Great idea!! Maybe I should try that one. I'll go to the back room and get the cat's approval. Then if the cat does not approve, then no deal.

You need a label gun and you need to class the bikes by price. It's not that hard if you have lot of bikes. Just take a bunch of them you want to sell for X amount and price all those the same.

If someone thinks it's too expensive, offer a lower price.

The price ticket will stop some people from bartering, but it will also cause people to pay the price you want.

That remind me of the time I brought a used car and my mom was with me. After I brought the car my mom and I was taken into a back room and there was a guy that looked like Al Capone's brother sitting behind a desk . The guy tried to get me to buy a $500 lowjack from my car , he thought he had a done deal , a woman with her little old mom . He got no where with me. Al Capone's brother was not a happy camper when I left the backroom.

yeah but who the dummy when you make money,i happy be dummy if i making the money so i not the dummy
