Difference between ASL and ESL?

The main difference lies in structure and origin:
  • ASL (American Sign Language): A complete, natural language with its own unique grammar, syntax, and idioms. It does not follow English word order.
  • ESL (English Signed Liberty / Signed Exact English): A communication system designed to mirror spoken English manually. It follows English grammar and word order exactly, often using signs for prefixes and suffixes (like "-ing" or "-ed").
