I was researching online and found out diesel powered cars are very common in UK (United Kingdom) Honda, Toyota, BMW, Saab, and many more make diesels. Funny thing is that diesel powered cars here in the US are not as common. I don't know why they are not common in the US, which puzzles me. Diesel could be as clean as a petrol engine, with cooked vegetable oil, bio diesel or ultra low sulfur diesel fuel.

There is already ultra low sulfur diesel which its cleaner burning diesel fuel which you can't smell the stinky diesel in older technology type of diesel fuel. That's why my friend from here in Seattle couldn't smell anything stinky from those particular diesel cars in London, UK. he's visiting there on a vacation.

Diesel, in fact is more efficent than petrol (gasoline) powered engine, because of the higher compression ratio makes it a complete combustion without a spark plug, it only needs heat by the compression to ignite the diesel fuel unlike the gasoline engine. It's different kind of fuel compared to unleaded version, also diesel only needs lower engine speeds to crank out lots of torque and it redlines at a lower limit than a unleaded engine, though. Diesel also gets better gas mileage than unleaded (petrol) engine, too.

Any additional comments are welcome here. :) I'd like to see better gas mileage than we have today here in the US, they are not trying hard enough.

Yes Diesel cars are very common in Germany. It was started long time ago. I beleive diesel is something do with Environment. (I'm not car expert... I will ask my hubby more when I'm home from work the reason why we have diesel cars here in Germany).

All what I know is:

It's expensive to buy Diesel cars here in Germany but good side is they offer you 2 to 3 years car tax-free to buy new Diesel cars.

It's cheap gasonline for Diesel cars than other gasolines but car tax is expensive. You should compare car tax with Diesel gasoline fuel costs... It make profit if you use 19 miles (30 km) a day to travel everyday. It's profit loss to use less than 19 miles a day.

We will buy small diesel car next year because we share a small car for travel to work everyday which it's cheapest diesel gasoline. BMW combi for family car - shopping - outing... not travel to work...

I'm surprised that it's not common to have Diesel in your country... Interesting...

I would rather to own a diesel car, but I cannot afford it. Unfortunately, the diesel cause worst air pollution, but it is probably good for motor.

I am just wondering about the old T-model (not sure which one). Does it have a generator-startup? In the old days, they have go out in the front car and crank it in order to start the motor.

To answer your question about Ford Model T (whichever) I believe the later models had starter motor to start up the engine circa in the 1910-1920's, not sure. By the way, that's not related to diesel subject, if you wanted to know subjects not related to that subject...please create a new thread. Thanks

Very nice offer :D

profit after 19 miles a day? I didn't know that.

What kind of small diesel car are you looking for?

heavy diesel powered machines are common here in the US like trucks, buses, ships, etc. The diesel powered cars are not common.

dispite the large clouds of black smoke coming from trucks, diesel is a cleaner fuel then gasoline. Also you can get more miles per gallon then regular gas

I know that many people don't like diesel cars because now diesel gas is more expensive than regular, the exhaust stinks, and they are noisier. (Emissions are less, therefor cleaner, but when you are riding behind one it still stinks.)

Diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol in Europe, they're common there. They seem not to mind the clattering noise from the loud diesel engines. My friend that is visiting London right now, he says those diesel buses are quietier compared to the ones here in Seattle city buses are hella loud. I don't know how they make them quiet, which puzzles me.
