did you have hard time with doctor?

My back is really hurt but i didnt know why. It made me crazy nut. I had go urgent care center that I am not belong to them because I have my own real private doctor. My real doctor is on vacation for thanksgiving. Anyway I had come in room and waited for doctor. My son was with me because no one can watch him. A JERK doctor came in and he spoke without writing. I told him that write. He kept speak and asked me can I read lipreading. I said no. He refuse write. I screamed at his face to write. I never scream at doctor in my all life. He made my son to sign for us. I told doctor don't make my son do that because he is only 8 and he dont know anything. He was soooo stubborn. He keep speak to my son. My son didn't understand what he was talking. My son told me that doctor kept ask him why I am sick. My son told him that He dont know anything. Second time I screamed and I said Only me and you not my son!!!! Doctor was still stubborn. I told him to write. He did very little. Then I blow up at the nurse because of doctor. A nurse was so nice and understanding me. She ordered him to write without depend on my son. Doctor was so quiet during he came in and he wrote You have virus flu. I asked him to get IB that they are more strong than 200mg ib. He refuse. I was so hell mad at him. I really hate him! He has no respect whoa! I cannot wait to tell my real doctor what A jerk doctor treated me so shit. I will also tell my husband when he get home. I bet that my husband will be very angry at doctor and would cuss at him for treated me so shit.
 
Wow, your story is almost similar to what I've gone through but it was with a vet doctor...I repeatly told the vet I couldn't understand him cause he was talking too fast and it was hard for me to lip reading, but he didn't listen and kept going on and on like he was trying to commicate in a different way more of yelling or screaming expecting me to hear him Good grief, then I told him to write it down , he looked at me and said " all of it? " I said " yeah " :aw: ...I've noticed he signed and then rolled his eyes, I was like oh boy....and when he wrote everything down on a piece of paper, I couldn't read anything he was saying, his handwritting was soo sloppy and tiny, it was hard for me to read his handwritting...Good grief I gave up and decide to go and look for another vet elsewhere cause I was getting too frustrated with him not knowing what is going on with my cats...Now I have a new vet doctor, she is awesome!! and understood her good and the people there were very helpful and nice! so I feel a bit more comfortable around them and glad I found this new vet hospital where I can go anytime without any problems...

I'm so sorry that you had this experiences, I know what it like to be in your shoes there, hopefully this won't happen again, :hug:

Been there, some doctor never communicated with deaf people before. I have to deal with that. My daughter's doctor know, I have hearing problem. one thing I hate his big mouth lips, He say" HOW...ARE..YOU..??" I say I am fine and don't need talk to me like that. I can understand fine.He say,oh I am sorry... So, he don't do that to me anymore..He talk to me normal from on. I can lips read.
 
Oh what a nuisance you went through with this, what more your not feeling well!

What aggorance doctor!!

Ouch! :( That's sad .. I am oral and have high loss so I had smilar communication problems whenever I went to doctors. Most of them do not try to understand our difficulty in speech environment . I had hard time when I applied to get my new hearing aids.. It was disturbing to see that my ENT doctor had no interest in my difficulty to understand his very soft speech :pissed: I couldn't understand him and couldn't get what to do and felt lost :pissed: but luckily I had a very good friend who is hearing. He supported me and he was with me during my application and helped me like an interpreter and I was able to get my new hearing aids thanks to him.Those days were very exhausting and frustrating to me :werd:
 
For odd reason, I haven't got problem with doctors and did asked them to get note and pen then they gave to me and doctor was wrote back to me for explain about what happen.

Just go to see other doctor office or visit local ENT.
 
Wow ... I'm so sorry you went thru like these situations. If I were you and there is no professional interpreter provided then I won't pay for doctor's fee for not having satisfied service I need.
 
I never had any problems with my doctors! They all are great and glad they are my doctors.. Some doctors can be a pain in the butt! Somtimes I don't like their moods swings! Everybody isn't perfect! Mine are great and understands me!


Urgent care SUCKS anyways!
 
I found out that i have flu. I am okay. My husband was so angry at doctor that doctor treated me so bad. We will have to go there again on monday to meet office manager so we can against the doctor.
 
Hmm, doctors in emergency rooms are usually interns and many of them have been awake and working for at least 12 hours, sometimes more.

It is true that there should be a better understanding of people with disabilities in an emergency room. Did you ask at the desk for an interpreter?

I used to take my students to the emergency room occasionally and while we did not have an interpreter, everyone was very cordial and made sure I understood what was going on.

I think you have a right to complain and please let us know the outcome! Better luck next time.
 
I never had a problem with my doctors. They are more caring and understanding. Sorry to hear that some of you guys went through this. Hope it would get better soon! :grouphug:
 
Well, I would say, either do what I ask you to do, or I call my attorney and you deal with lawsuit! Your choice!
 
I think you still could contact your attorney! That way, they could rock the boat! No hospital wants to hear your attorney.

This doctor deserves three things... get sued, lose his license and get fired!

You can explain to the hospital administrator WHY it is so important that there need to have an interpreter, miscommunication can lead to misdiagnose, then to mistreatment which could do much damage always equals malpractice lawsuit!

well, I had no choice that I had to go urgent care because fever was high. Urgent care is not hositpal. I can meet their office manager on monday and I can against the doctor. I cannot go ER because I have no insurance. If I did, they will cost me sooo much. forget it. My case was not deep serious. If my case was deep serious so I would go ER. Doctor didnt give me any med at all. He is so asshole. excuse my language. I have to wait until monday so I can able see my own private doctor that she and I always write each other. I can take damn pain for staright 3 days. I know that my private doctor will be so pissed off at the urgent care's doctor. I cannot call attonery because I have to meet office manger to see if we can work thing out. Office manager is part of headquather. If things dont work thing out then I can call state to report a complain then I can hire lawyer. That how it work. That is law. You cannot hire lawyer suddenly without contact hositpal headquater or Office manager and call the state to fill complain. I already had experiece with the bank, the state and lawyers long time ago. I had big meeting with bank headquather and it didnt work out at all. I did call lawyer suddenly before contact the state. and he said i must call the state and fill the complain.

I don't want any interpreter because I am very indenpent. I know how write an read the note. If I don't understand the doctor's word. I will ask them to explain to me. My private doctor know me for 6 years. She always explain to me very clear.

Please don't ask me why I don't have insurance. Long Long story!!!!

I will get an interprter if I need. okay?

I am sorry that you had bad experience. I still am very sick. My fever was so crazy. I called a nurse at hositpal and she said in 3 to 4 hour that I must go ER. I have no choice because I am too sick. grrr
 
we are currently battling with doctors everywhere, one clinic that i attend to refused to get an interpeter until finally recently got an interpeter they need to relize any more than 15 staff workers they are require to have interpter on call to attend to the deaf client's needs, well we filed a complaint cuz this is a branch of the headquaters in hilo, sure enuff after 4 months of dealing with this BS, we finally had the clinic in my town cooperate sheesh..

now we are dealing ( on my dad's situation) with a incompetent surgeon who flat out refused to do sugery and told dad to go to kona and do the surgery consulant there i was like wtf! My dad was in the hosptial for nearly a week a month ago and now last night he went back to the hosptial cuz the vomiting started up again. He got admitted late last night and these doctors just flat out do not know what the fuck thier doing, they just want the money not caring for the patient sheesh... Now mom's already hired an attorney to file a lawsuit against the doctor, dad's gallbladder could have finally been removed last week but NOOOOOOO the surgeon sent him to kona on Dec 13 and now this vomiting happened again, and he's back in the hosptial AGAIN. so what's the difference waiting til he's so sick we will lose him! Hell NO! mom's VERY upset at the incompentecy of these doctors who keeps procrasinating. So mom and dad will be meeting an lawyer about this and filing a lawsuit she already filed a greivence against the dumbfuck.

so am I having hard time through hell different doctor.. I do want determined that RIGHT DOCTOR who truly cares about the patient's health. That important.. I'm looking for... and also willing open the communication with Deaf person. Until finally I got new doctor... Likely wow... impressive Doctor did themselves contact an interpreter and arrangement appointment goes smooth. I'm very happy with my new doctor who is WOMAN.. Impressive!

After that done the doctor appointment.. If serious health , contact an interpreter arrangement appointment. Not serious health likely eg: flu, cold or else.. write the paper communication each together went smooth understanding no misunderstand. I'm glad!

Except Hospital.. (groan) Drove me nuts in Emergency office having hard time to co-operative w/me.. 110% I demand an interpreter and will not leave this hospital unless an interpreter here! I wrote BIG CAPTION wording... "LIFE OR DEATH" important expression them WAKE UP CALL.. how's serious health what I need to... "where my communication?"

BUT.... DR surgeon's office... *ugh* except not DR surgeon.
