PHOENIX - A Phoenix couple has been arrested for child abuse after their 7-week-old son was found to have severe injuries during a recent hospital visit.
In a police interview, detectives say 30-year-old Taylor Basilio admitted to shaking the boy on three separate occasions and told police that he had a "bad anger problem."
Basilio was arrested Saturday, five days after he and his wife took the boy to a pediatrician to get a flu shot and it was found that the boy was severely underweight.
The doctor reportedly ordered the couple to take their son to the hospital, where staff discovered the boy had several broken ribs, a fractured skull, and a fractured clavicle.

According to the police report, Basilio and his wife, who are both deaf, were struggling to care for the boy and get enough formula for him.

The family lived at a trailer park at 2nd Street and South Mountain Avenue.

Police say Basilio told them in the interview that he didn't know how the boy's bones got broken. He admitted to shaking the boy and pulling on his arms because he was frustrated. He also said that he did some "pretty stupid things lately" but did not say what.

The report goes on to indicate that Basilio wanted to tell what happened but it was his wife who didn't want him to get in trouble and arrested.
Detectives re-interviewed Basilio's wife, Candice, on Monday. While talking with police, the 24-year-old reportedly admitted that both she and her husband had caused the baby harm. Following the interviews, she was booked into jail and charged with child abuse.

Taylor Basilio is also charged with one count of child abuse. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Phoenix PD: Deaf parents arrested for abusing young son

Doesn't sound like being deaf had anything to do with the problem. That baby needs to be placed in a safe and secure environment. Hopefully there is some family that would be good to it and take care of it. The social services and foster care system doesn't always do much better but I think some changes are coming to improve it. Unfortunately it will never be perfect. Just a sad, sad deal for the child.

^^^Agreed. Deaf had nothing to do with it. I was wondering why their hearing status was even mentioned. Had nothing to do with the child abuse.

stupid media tried to make us look bad. ^^^ agreed about being parent, not about the hearing status. poor baby. :(

How true!...So many times people have said and wondered how a deaf person could raise a child.....and for those who have said or implied it to me....I'd like to (sometimes) spit it right back into their face...and say:..."Hey! My kid is Honor Roll"!...Never got into trouble at school or home...doesn't run the streets like yours does!...and before I "forget", yeah, I'm Deaf....

I agree ! "According to the police report, Basilio and his wife, who are both deaf, were struggling to care for the boy and get enough formula for him."
And a lot of 'hearing' parents are having a time feeding their kids .
this made is looks likes deaf and HOH parents can't afford to feed their kids!!

I really wish they would have left the hearing status out because it has nothing to do with properly taking care of the infant.

Exactly! I don't like it when they said that a deaf driver had an accident and some people are going to say that deaf people shouldn't drive. Now this, I wonder if there are people there who think that deaf people shouldn't be allowed to have kids?? I won't be surprised if there are some who think like this.

They do!....

That poor baby!
I hope there is someone out there to give that boy a home where he is loved.

About the hearing status  Great! Maybe they should take our child away, too..A precautionary measure, since we both are deaf:roll:

Poor baby boy!

I agree with everyone on here, why mention they deaf? Nothing do with abusing poor baby boy.

Some of you are over-sensitive... Im glad the parents were mentioned deaf b/c Im deaf. The only reason why... I actually watched the video and saw the father usin asl.. Pretty cool.

Poor baby...hope he will be ok.

I agree with the others...the media just loves to sensationalize stories. Adding the deafness probably was the way to capture the readers' attention but can have long lasting negative impacts on how society views us.

Damn, I am deaf and I know that if I beat up a kid, the kid's bone breaks!! I don't have to hear it. I know what happens.

Taylor is retarded!! He beat up kid and he did not know the kid's bone broke. What a douche bag!!! I hope he rots in prison for a long time.

Ditto. Doesn't matter if the parents are poor, deaf, or extremely rich, abuse still happens in homes.
