Deaf-mute girl raped by hospital sweeper in Orissa
A shocking incident took place in Bhubaneswar's biggest government hospital when a deaf-mute girl was raped by an employee.
Twenty-three-year-old Sanju was allegedly raped by the hospital sweeper in the toilet. She is now suffering from trauma, ruling out the possibility of conducting a medical examination to determine the rape.
"Basing on the complaint by the victim, we have registered a case of molestation and the accused has been arrested,” stated ACP Sarat Chandra Sahu, of Bhubaneswar.
Earlier in the day, Sanju had been rescued by an NGO from the Bhubaneswar Railway station and was admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries to her hands and neck.
The hospital audiologist said that Sanju had been subjected to severe torture before being admitted there.
"She is in complete shock. From the gestures that she makes it is learnt that she was handcuffed by afew men and was severely beaten for which she got the injuries before the hospital incident," said Capital Hospital’s Dr Khirod Chandra Panda.
Using gestures, Sanju has explained that she belongs to Balasore district. However, her family has not been traced yet.
Meanwhile, the NGO who had come to her rescue earlier has agreed to give her shelter.
