My friend told me about the Deaf Film Festival at UC Berkeley maybe a semester ago, I was going to go but class schedule conflict. I heard so much good things and I am having such a hard time finding a VHS or a DVD so I can buy it and watch at home. I heard there was one good one that mocked SEE it was called "I love you but..."
let me know what I can do.......

you seen other movies like "children of a lesser god" right? well it was kinda old but I thought it was good...but kind of mushy also

need a movie where a deaf dude can FIGHT ass! tons of actions, thrills, and supsense, and a load of non stop violence...adventures! romance! (for abit of it, of course) and even the film that bring you tears of both joyness and sadness at about the same time in such one of the greatest films ever made...and that's what I might do something related to that someday...

There are old movies from Germany and Oregon, USA

Silence Beynod ?? I forgot the name of title. It made in Germany. They used GSL.

Deafuala made in 1970's in Oregon. Interesting to watch that old movie. They used alot of PSE instead of ASL.

The German title is "Jenseits der Stille" or "Beyond Silence." They did use DGS though.

Another French movie that has to do with deafness is "Pays des Sourds" (or "Land of the Deaf").

A few days ago, Deaf258 and I rent a French movie called "Read My Lips" about a hard-of-hearing French secretary. It was ok.

I never heard of "I Love You But..." but I decided to do a little research. Here is what I found out so far...

I Love You," a Japanese family drama made by hearing and deaf artists, is among the offerings to be screened at PFA next week as part of the Deaf Film Festival. It is the first Japanese feature film co-directed by a deaf artist: Akihiro Yonaiyama, who will attend the screening of this film. It will be presented both in Japanese Sign Language and in spoken Japanese with English subtitles.

(From: http://www.berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/2003/02/12_deaf.shtml )

If you go to the second link, you will see a list of movies shown at the festival.

I tried looking around a bit, but I don't seem to find a way to purchase these movies. I'll keep looking and will let you know if I find something out.

There was an old film made years and years ago -- it was about school aged deaf kids at a public school and showed how hard and frustrating it was for the deaf kids to develop their socialising skills at a public school and so forth.
Can't remember the name of the movie, but it had quite a number of people who went to the same school as I.

wasn't it shown on 20/20 waterrats? if this is the one that im thinking I KNOW who was on tv that time :-X

I was there for the entire 3 days. A lot of them were very good films. I especially enjoyed the one from Thailand. I love you but was probably the worst film out of all those good ones, it was shoot in 80's with all those cheesy lines and lousy actors. I admire Peter Cook's on stage performance, but his is not a fine film director in any sense.
So who is your friend who told you about the festival? Funny that we've never met.

well are you sure it was the same movie? there is two movies, I love you, and I love you but....anyways.... I think you did meet my friend :)

There’s a film called In the Company of Men that won top honors at Sundance a few years ago. It doesn’t really fall under the category of Deaf films, but it is worth seeing for it’s blatant social commentary. It’s about two men who work at an office who plan and execute a viciously cruel practical joke upon a deaf woman who works at the same office. They succeed at completely destroying her emotionally, but she ultimately recovers and turns the tables on one of them. It is a very intense and powerful film. Warning: the dialog between the two men concerning the woman’s deafness is extremely offensive.

I’ve done the same thing, with no success. I’ve never found any domestically produced ASL Deaf movie that has been distributed on VHS or DVD. "I Love You, But" is frequently screened at Deaf film festivals here in Southern California, but doesn’t appear to have ever been released for commercial distribution. It’s possible that there might be a publicly viewable copy at the CSUN library. If all else fails, you could try contacting the producer of that film directly and asking him if he has any plans for future distribution of it in the domestic market. I saw him running around at Deaf Expo—if I had seen this thread earlier I would have pointed him out to you. I’m guessing that DawnSign Press would be the most likely outlet for future release of domestically produced Deaf films. You could try contacting them for more information.

I spoke with Dawn Sign Press at the deaf expo. they carry movies to help educate, they have movies like sound and fury, other ASL (to learn) videos but no FUN videotape to watch you know.....its so weird.

Well, you could try contacting Peter Wolf directly. I can give you his phone number and e-mail address.

Curious, what is "I love you, but..." I haven't seen that before so can you tell me what is movie talk about? Does deaf person in movie or what?

And, do you remember it called "Child Miracle" it was about movie by the girl was blind and deaf. The woman teach sign language and learning the word definiation. It was really good. But, that one old movie was about same before. But few years ago that common was new movie.

Anyway, hopefully they will going to have to try to find screenplay for deaf action. I will find out who can take director. I was dream about I am become a Director film with Harry Potter. But, I felt not match either. Yes, I am deaf too. I love play actor.
