The Daily Home - Deaf couple safe after house caught on fire

Talladega firefighters and Stemley Volunteer firefighters responded to a call Monday night on Stemley Bridge Road to a home occupied by a deaf couple. Everyone made it out of the house safely, and the fire was out after about 20 minutes, according to Captain Ron Goodenough. Unfortunately, the house caught fire again Tuesday morning.

The fire was called in at 11 p.m. Monday night, when the homeowner smelled smoke. They were on the scene in about six minutes.

“Both the parents were deaf, and none of us sign,” Goodenough said. “But we got a rope up the bedroom and walked the father down while we held the rope tight”

Although the fire was out by 11:30 p.m., firefighters remained on the scene until about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the official run report. There was fire, smoke and water damage throughout the house.

Talladega was called out the second time at about 6:30 a.m. and remained on the scene until noon. Most of the house was destroyed, with the exception of a room used for ammunition storage. They remained on the scene until around noon.

The cause and points of origin of the fires were not immediately clear Tuesday afternoon.

The Talladega fire truck that responded was dispatched from Station Number 2, in Brecon.

I want to know more about that room that was used for ammunition storage.
