Plz hlp!: Disabled to finally txt emergency services

Deaf and hearing- and speech-impaired people will soon be able to text emergency services from their mobile phones after the government promised to introduce the services as soon as possible.

"We are absolutely delighted with this news. Finally deaf and hard-o-hearing people will be able to feel more safe when they go out into the community," the president of Deaf Australia, Kyle Miers, said yesterday.

Although text messaging was not 100 per cent reliable, it would offer a lifeline to people in emergency situations. The national relay service, which conducts phone calls for the hearing-impaired, already has an emergency number that accepts teletypewriter calls but not voice or SMS messages.

Mod's note: Require typo is fixed.

That's great news to read. Hopefully it won't be long for it to be set up.

I have known Kyle for more than 20 years and we have been good friends. I stayed at his place when I vacationed in Australia last August. :D

I personally know him too, friend of mine with my family, when he used to live in Canberra, before he moved to Melbourne.

Cool. :) Yes right. His wife grew up in Canberra where they lived together for a few years.
